R60- a comment

#1 Post by emeraldgirl08 » Wed Oct 05, 2011 10:29 pm

I am loving this R60 that I got for a couple of dollars! The lid is pretty gnarly looking with white marks but luckily it has no cracks or breaks. When the lid is open the interior looks pretty darn new! The screen does not have any blemishes that I see. The keyboard is clean with no fading letters. I also missed having a touchpad! I like having a touchpad and a trackpoint. Best of both worlds for my uses!

I'm running it with W7 and aero works which is nice. All it needs is a flexview display. It has an XGA display which quite frankly was shocking and a bit scary to see! I have an X200 with PVA display so I'm used to wide viewing angles. I also had found a dock that I was lucky to get for $4 plus shipping so I was looking at the right place at the right time :)

Anyhoo i'm typing on it right now and I feel like all is well with the world. I'm also feeling like I found a long lost friend and am catching up on news! lol Sheesh I'm feeling very very nerdy >.<

I like R60's, too. I have issued two to family members. Other than a little extra thickness and weight, they are quite similar to T60's.

Some of them also have Firewire (not available on T60) and S-Video (15" models only, I think). No IPS screens, but can be retrofitted. What about DVI output? The Ltwbook does not say anything on the matter.

I have both the Firewire and S-Video ports but do not see a use for them. I am already looking around for an IPS SXGA+ and it looks like LG would be feasible. I have heard a lot of good things about the Boe-Hydis types but they cost 3X as much as I paid for this R60 :eek:

I am also looking for a 320gb-500gb 5400rpm hard drive if anyone might have one to sell 8)

@dr_st

I have an advanced dock that has the DVI port. The R60 by itself has a VGA but no DVI.

@underclocker

It took a little time to adjust to and it will be fine as a stay-at-home laptop.

Did you succeed in outputting DVI from the R60 through the dock? Which video card do you have? Just curious.

I have the ATI X1300

There is an older Acer monitor here at home that has an VGA-only input. My monitor at school has DVI but I do not plan on taking the R60 back so I cannot test the docks DVI output just yet.

IIRC ATI cards have no problem outputting via DVI. It is the Intel graphics which might have some type of limit on it's DVI output properties.

Yes, you are right. My memory is refreshed now. :)

Indeed if I am not mistaken, in the 6x/x00 generation (the machines that used the Advanced Mini-Dock / Dock), all those with discrete GPU could output DVI.

When it comes to Intel integrated graphics, then the following machines can output DVI:
T60, T61, R61 14", R400, Z61m, Z61t (Napa refresh models only)

And the following cannot:
Z60m, Z61t (pre-refresh models), R61 15"

This is according to the Tabook. There are certain models for which the Tabook says nothing:
Z60t, R60, R500

I am pretty sure that they cannot output DVI, but since your R60 has the X1300, we cannot verify that. :)

R60 and R500 with Intel GPU won't output DVI on the dock.
