Just so I don't waste some money a question

#1 Post by smw6230 » Sat Oct 08, 2011 3:32 am

I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I'll ask anyway just to make sure. I have a couple of options but I want to go with a WSXGA screen.

Screen replacement needed for a Thinkpad Z61m (15.4)

z61 HMM lists two WSXGA screens:

13N7020 - LG Phillips
13N7116 - Samsung

ThinkWiki confirms and lists

LP154W02-(TL)(10) - LG-Phillips
LTN154P2-L05 - Samsung

I'd like to go with the LG so I look around and locally I find a surplus store that has an LG Phillips WSXGA LP154W02(B1)(K6).

LP154W02(TL)(10) - ThinkWiki
LP154W02(B1)(K6) - Locally

My instinct is that I should stay away from the local screen because it isn't an exact match of the one listed in Thinkwiki. But what I'm not sure about is the meaning of the numbers in brackets. I always thought those were revision numbers/letters. If that's so then couldn't I use the one locally because its simply a revision of the display listed in ThinkWiki?

Do I have that right or wrong?

I can help a little.

1) You can use any brand and any resolution Lenovo 15.4" LCD from any ThinkPad model (WXGA, WSXGA+, WUXGA - all O.K.)
2) You can use any version of any panel, as long as it's Lenovo branded
3) Non-Lenovo branded panels, may work or may be reprogrammed to work, but there is no guarantee (search for EDID)
4) I have found LG panels to be generally better than Samsung panels in 15.4"

Good luck on the swap, I have found the Z61m to be the easiest panel to swap due to a very accessible LCD cover design.

(By Lenovo-branded, I mean were actual Lenovo parts, with Lenovo part number labels on the back in addition to the manufacturer labels.)
