Did I just find my perfect laptop bag??

#1 Post by none » Wed Apr 06, 2005 5:54 pm

I'm wondering if anyone here has the Marware SportFolio I and could give me his/her opinion... I'm looking at it's page and it seems like my dream case.

http://www.marware.com/cgi-bin/WebObjec ... 1tAAyiRc4M

It's:

- Sleeve thin and looks good
- Has a shoulder strap (padded at that)
- Has a stretchable front pocket to fit the AC adapter when I need it
- Has a zipped back pocket for papers

I am an inch away from ordering.. There is also a 12" but I think 14"/15" will make a better fit for my T41p.

I was thinking of ordering the ThinkPad Carrying Case - Leather Ultraportable. It seems very compact and according to the website the 14" Thinkpad will fit in it. Has anyone used one of these. I like it because it is compact and made of leather.

I posted this comment about the Marware SportFolio in another earlier thread. Go ahead and order one, and see if your opinion differs from mine, however I did not like it:

(quoting myself):
"I had one for less than a day (before I sent it back for a refund).
I was not thrilled with the construction overall.
There were "flaps" of fabric at the zipper that I thought should have been trimmed off, but instead were left flapping.
Again, didn't like it much."

I thought that the construction of the Marware bag was "cheap", it was just not finished off very well, and, being 100 percent neoprene made it very lightweight, but not very durable looking, IMHO. Just didn't appear to be top-quality.

I ended up going with the Waterfield Sleevecase with all the extras (flap, add-on pouch, shoulder strap) at:
http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleeveca ... ecases.htm

and I consider it the nicest quality sleeve that I have ever seen. The neoprene that the Marware bag is made of is just on the inside of the Waterfield sleeve, and there is ballistic nylon on the outside. Super heavy-duty, premium quality bag, IMHO. No corners were cut in the making of this sleeve. Built to last and last.

The Marware bag, in my opinion, could start to fall apart quite quickly.
Again, just a guess, and only my opinion.

However, I lost the shipping charges both ways to return the Marware, and I won't do that unless I am quite unhappy with a product.

I recently replaced my Tumi expandable brief, which his not exactly designed as a laptop bag but I was using it with a no-name brand foam sleeve to cushion the laptop:

http://www.tumi.com/products/index.cfm? ... ryid=13013

With an Ebags Firewall Laptop Bag.

http://www.ebags.com/ebags/firewall_lap ... elid=15030

The ebags is a nicer laptop case than the Tumi in every way and at 1/4 the price of a replacement Tumi. The Ebags Firewall is a perfect fit for my T42p and you can't beat the price. I did a much longer review of this bag a couple months ago that you should be able to find on this forum by searching.

i have an stm alley bag. my t42 14 inch perfectly with the extended battery fits the laptop compartment perfectly. there is also room for a couple of books, your charger, and your school supplys. you should look into it. it looks cool and offers decent protection. probably not good for professional businessmen/women as it looks a little too "hip".

Kind of on the huge side, don't you think??
There's like room for 3 days change of clothes in that thing.

It does get great reviews for what it is.

Very cool looking bag, I may get it, and it is for work but I'm in the tech industry so it would fit in just fine 8)

Get the Sportfolio's if you wish.

Just remember that I posted above that they are poorly constructed, and probably won't hold up very long.

I switch between using their backpack and a laptop sleeve with carrying belt and they are both great. Especially at the prices, too.

Hi, I have Marware Sportfolio for about a year now. I have to say it is the best case I ever used so far.

It is light, very durable and offers a lot of protection to the laptop. Not to forget that it is also very confortable to carry around! Highly recommended.
