T42p video problem

#1 Post by rustyh3 » Tue Oct 11, 2011 8:33 pm

I have a very loved and well used T42p that I really don't want to replace.

Yesterday when I opened the lid to start the day and the screen started making interesting patterns of a non keyboard type symbol. All over the screen. The shading also changes. It favors yellow. When I push down on the wrist rest the pattern sometimes shifts. The pattern is present all the time and seems to get worse as time goes on.

I had a friend open the unit and check the video connectors. No problems found.

The pattern also appears on my external monitor as well.

Any suggestions as to where to look for a solution?

Thanks,
Rusty

You're looking at a textbook example of VRAM corruption...not at all common on T4x units, but it obviously does happen once in a blue.

The machine needs a new motherboard. There is no known fix for this ailment.

Good luck.
