9-cell battery for T42 requires dock?
9-cell battery for T42 requires dock?
It's not completely clear to me -- but thought I heard somewhere that the 9-cell battery requires a docking station? True? Or is it standalone and doesn't require any other hardware other than the T42?
(I'm a long-time user of various Thinkpad models including batteries and docking stations, but this one is new to me and I've got to decide if I need to buy one for a new T42 to take on the road next week where a dock would be useless.)

I have a T42 that's about 6 months old with the 9-cell battery (6.6AH FRU 08K8198). Even with the Wifi card turned off. battery maximizer set to "super power save" and the screen brightness set low I do well to get 3:30 out of it. Even new I never got close to 5 hours. Do you actually get 5+ hours?

Sure would be.
That's why I wondered... especially since the IBM websites heavily raves about that battery in relation to docking, and nothing else.
I got it, and have been happy with it. I only wish the seller had been a little more honest and open about this being an used unit -- he/she neglected to state that and mentioned terms like 'factory sealed' which I think was misleading.
Still, a battery at 85% of original factory capacity isn't too bad, and the price was about 65% of the brand new price, so I'm not complaining. Not buying from the seller in question again, though -- not trustworthy in my book.

Was this an EBAY purchase?
If so...did it say refurbished or recertified anywhere in the auction.
If so...that is the standard MO for EBAY refurb sellers.
Basically, they bury the word refurbished somewhere in the body of the description, and focus on factory sealed.

Yes, on EBAY, I think that the confusion is deliberately created.
Kind of like when you buy a cell phone, and the title has the word "NEW" and the description says "in original box", but also in the description it says something like "used very briefly".
Some EBAY sellers think that there are all kinds of iterations of "NEW", when, in reality, of course there is only new and not new.
