Replace T43 screen assembly with higher res T42 screen assem
I have aT43 with standard 1024 x 768 resolution that I would like to replace with a T42 higher resolution display I have, swapping the two screen complete assemblies. Is this possible; are they interchangeable?

There were no expletives in the title. Only abbreviations.
Re: Replace T43 screen assembly with higher res T42 screen *****
LOL @"expletives".
The assemblies are interchangeable, provided they are the same size (14" for 14", or 15" for 15"). AFAIK, if you have an Intel GPU on the 14" T43, you cannot run high resolutions, but you can on a 15" screen (go figure). ATI-equipped T43s should be fine either way.

Re: Replace T43 screen assembly with higher res T42 screen *****
Just to add a couple of details to dr_st's very correct observations:
a) ATi-based units (model number starting in 26xx) will output any resolution.
b) Intel-based units (model number starting in 187x) will output XGA only on 14", and might or might not work with a 15" SXGA+. They will NOT work with a 15" UXGA.
Good luck.

Will new drivers or other software be required? Or will the option to select higher resolutions automatically appear under display properties in the control panel?

No software required, the board will detect new display and accept it automatically.

Re: Replace T43 screen assembly with higher res T42 screen *****
Which is a more involved and complicated job - removing and replacing an entire screen assembly, or removing and replacing just the LCD? I could do either one, depending on which is wiser.
I'm concerned that the screen assembly that's available to me to use as a replacement may not be ok. The owner reports that before the laptop died completely, the screen had begun to flicker at times in the weeks before, occasionally going to black, but once powered on and off, the screen would usually come back on. Can it be said whether this is a faulty screen or another issue somewhere else on the now deceased laptop?

That description sounds like a dying CCFL (backlight) and I would stay away from that screen altogether.
