Any high quality new thinkpads out there?
So I ordered x270. Probably a little prematurely as I read a bunch of reviews about the following issues: - poor IPS quality with bleeding - keyboard flex - overheating It’s arriving this week, I will probably open it to see if any of the above are true in this particular unit. Otherwise I will retu...

Re: Ordered X270
Interesting. Back in the day when I used to buy thinkpad, tablets (classic tablets with twisting display) were known to have better screens. I guess things changed a lot, should have asked on this forum first.
The thinkpad will come in 1 week. I will post pics.

Re: Ordered X270
IPS bleeding is typical for cheap display components Lenovo always prefer. No, you can't get decent display from Lenovo except few expensive models like P51 4K or T470s/X1Carbon WQHD, if you win the display vendor lottery . Low cost brands like Acer or MSI typically have better display quality than...

Re: Ordered X270
I did on a number of review sites. However it is not the same as having one in person to examine. That’s why I prefer Macs, I can easily find their store and it doesn’t take more than 5 seconds for me to figure out which models are out of the question and which will work for me. Not to mention I can...

Ordered X270
I just ordered X270: 4GB RAM 500gb 7200 RPM HDD IPS Multitouch Display i5 What are my chances that I find my brand new thinkpad with the following issues: - display bleed - dead pixels - loose hinges (ie lid easily opened with one hand) I recently checked out apple store and their MacBook Pros don't...

Re: So it looks like my gf is getting me x140e on black frid
Yeah I just checked. It's the slow version E1 2500 AMD. It's adventage over E240 from x120e is that it will be two cores instead of one. Which should hopefully give no trouble playing flash. I really liked x120e minus the slow processor which now has trouble playing flash. Hopefully this one will be...

Re: So it looks like my gf is getting me x140e on black frid
That's good news. I found X120e to be much better built than x230 in terms of quality control and hinge strenght.

So it looks like my gf is getting me x140e on black friday.
Probably my last thinkpad. I had x120e and it was okay to work with but it's a bit worn out now, loose hinges, feet came out, battery completly dead and processor outdated has some difficulty playing flash.
What should I expect from 140e?

Re: non-ThinkPad ThinkPads
im glad admins got around renaming the sections into something more intuitive. and while I share your disdain to a lot of changes that lenovo did, I think that naming a section "non-thinkpad" and placing thinkpads underneath it would only confuse newcomers.

Re: Perhaps Time For a New Browser?
yes I agree FF can be a memory hog. this is a huge problem for older computers such as my T23 with 256mg RAM.... however if you got a newer laptop then RAM is cheap these days. I got a 4GB stick for $22. Once you get pleny of RAM, I am really enjoy FF much more than IE or Chrome. The problem I have ...

Re: Goodbye, ThinkPads!!
X120e - no squeaking plastic, no flex, fan almost never on, GREAT keyboard. The only thing missing is the rubberized cover and the thinklight, which I'm willing to live with (obviously) because this machine is so sturdy. If the X230--which does have the Thinklight and rubberized finish--continues w...

Re: x120e E-240 being shipped, what to upgrade?
Okay so i managed to install 6GB ram and 64GB SSD. I have to say the difference in speed is day and night. The processor speed might have been the limiting factor according to windows but by all means it's completely false estimation of windows experience.

Re: Best thinkpad for word processing and web browsing
if you gonna browse the web with flash or silverlight then I would avoid T23 since it's video card can't handle it. i would go with something like T42 minimum.

Okay I figured out what the problem was. When I first got my thinkpad I tried Acronis True image hard disk clone utility. What happened is that Acronis failed to complete disk cloning and left my external hard drive partitioned at 1.12GB and 54GB of unallocated space. How did I find out? The second ...

Re: x120e E-240 being shipped, what to upgrade?
UPDATE: okay so while I still didn't manage to swap SSD into x120e, I did upgrade ram from 3GB to 6GB. Just the RAM in itself made a world of difference, especially for internet browsers.

yup my $1200 X300 has worst screen than my current $297 x120e. really a shame, as the poster above mentioned it's a great machine but it was ruined by its screen.

*R&R was not designed to restore a system after a windows failure? *Acronis true Image - similar problem. I create a back up and boot media. Re: How to restore OS to factory settings?
Thanks Gom but none of the above are my issues: 1) I gave up on the SD cards and it's just a paperweight with a useless factory recovery. I have made a bootable USB drive but unfortunetly I cannot bypass one recovery disk per operating system rule.... 2) I used R&R to back up my windows operating sy...

Installing new Hard Drive Round #2
Okay round #2 I downloaded R&R, made a back up to a USB Hard Disk. I've placed new SSD into my thinkpad, booted the computer using external USB, I loaded R&R and started my restore process. Okay let me rephrase my question. I created factory recovery disk using my 16GB SD card. How do I check if that card will restore my system to original factory settings? How to restore OS to factory settings?
Hi guys,
I have created factory restore disk on my 16GB SD card. How do I restore my computer from this card? I tried pressing F8 and then I did get restore option but it was only from the internal hard drive. Can someone walk me through this?

60C is more than fine. You could probably get a tpfancontrol app and increase the temp to 75 to decrease the fan noise.
