t410s flakiness
Our t410s is crashing sporadically, and has a number of other issues. 1. Sometimes when booting, I get error 2100, HDD0 initialization error. I am using an 80GB Intel SSD that came with the machine. 2. Sometimes when working, it will just crash - sometimes with a blue screen. This often (but not alw...

Re: ThinkPad W510/T420
I have the W510 and am reasonably happy with it. However, I have the FHD screen and I definitely think this would be a worthwhile upgrade. - CPU Whine: yep, I have that. However, I had that on my T60 as well, and my T410s also has it. I've never owned another brand of laptop, so I have nothing to co...

ThinkPads are spill-resistant, not spill-proof. I dropped a 16oz glass of ice water on an X300 with no ill effects. http://blog.lenovo.com/perspectives/spi ... -420643808 What did you do to minimize the damage once the spill had happened? I unplugged it, wiped up the mess, then let it stand for a f...

I thought thinkpads were supposed to be spill proof. I spilled approx one half pint of beer on my w510 keyboard, and it promptly shut down and will not start... A bit disappointed that the drain holes on the bottom are apparently there just for show. I still have warranty, but doubt that it covers m...

t42 windows 7 wireless dropping
I'm running a t42 with an intel 2100 wireless b card, and it's constantly dropping my wireless connection every two minutes or so. I've tried two routers - a dlink, and a linksys wrt54gl, and I have the same problem with both. I was thinking of just upgrading the wireless. Can anyone recommend a dec...

Don't count on it. I placed my order on March 1st. My expected ship date was pushed back twice -- now it's at April 6th. Meanwhile I see other people on this forum who placed their order after me have already received theirs. When I try to find what part is delaying the shipment, they dont' tell me....

Re: Successful Ubuntu 9.10 Install on T410
I can force the ethernet to 100 megabit: ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off but this doesn't seem like a very good solution. It works for now until I figure out a proper fix. Yes, I'm having the same problem with brightness, which I noticed after more testing. I haven't really tried t...

Re: Successful Ubuntu 9.10 Install on T410
I've installed xubuntu 9.10 on my w510. After installing the backports modules, my wireless works. Still two problems: - The brightness control does not work. It displays a brightness indicator that I can adjust up and down, but the actual screen brightness does not change. - Wired ethernet does not...

ultrabay SATA adapter for w510
I ordered the SATA adapter III for my w510 (43N3412), as this is the only adapter listed in the TA book for this model. It doesn't fit properly: there's a huge gap at the top. It does work, but the gap is going to let in all kinds of dirt and dust... This is very disappointing. Is there another sata...

Re: Used T60 or something new?
I've had a lot of problems with my T60. It's been in for repair at least 3 times since I purchased it 3 years ago: - Processor (T2500) overheating. Heatsink/fan replaced under warranty. - Optical drive bad. Replaced under warranty. - Second optical drive bad after a few months, didn't bother to repl...

t60 memory question
I have a T60 with a 2GHz T2500 processor and 3GB of memory. I'm constantly running out of memory. As it stands, I don't think I can use more than 4GB of memory (3GB physical + 1GB virtual). Is there a way to get Linux to use more than 4GB of memory on this laptop (I realize only 3GB will be physical...

Now that I think about it, increasing my RAM won't help. If I'm running out of memory now, I will still run out with more RAM. (Since the addressable amount of RAM+Swap will remain a constant 4GB - or maybe 3GB - with my 32bit CPU) Time to go 64 bit I guess... Thanks for the link. Yes, the limitatio...

I have a T60 with a T2500 processor (core 1, 32 bit), running Ubuntu GNU/Linux, and I'm constantly running out of memory. Are these quad core processors for notebooks Socket P - or are they just desktop processors (S775) crammed into notebooks?Bashar wrote:its all about Intel

I could really use a quad core, as long as I can actually load all four cores without a meltdown.

How did you manage to use 4GB of memory in a T60p? I thought they only supported 3GB.

I have a T60, Core 1 Duo (T2500), X1300, 2 gb memory, 1 SATA drive and 1 PATA drive via ultrabay. Running Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron). It suspends OK, but after it resumes I can only use the computer for about 30 seconds. After that, any application I open (eg. the terminal) draws a blank window and i...

4GB memory
Hi all, I have a T60 C4U-2007 with 2 gigabytes of memory and a 2GHz T2500 processor. I would like to upgrade to 4 GB of memory, but my understanding is that T60's do not support 4GB of memory. OK, I think I'll take it in for service. powertop is interesting and made some suggestions, but they all related to saving power when the cpu was idle or partially idle. I bought a T60 (from a reseller) and it was promptly delivered about 3 weeks ago. I was out of town at the time, so I actually only got it a week ago. These keys seem pretty useless. It isn't any harder to hit alt-leftarrow or alt-rightarrow to go backward and forward. They just clutter up the keyboard. Get rid of those, and the windows key... you know, the ones flanking the Up Arrow key. refer to this post for why this poll is up http://forum.thi...
