Get the X1C6 HMM manual here.
In there, under Special keys it says:
Press Fn+Spacebar to switch between the different keyboard backlight status (off, low, or high).

Those buttons are part of the keyboard.
The touchpad is separate and can be replaced with your 'old' one.

Take the lid apart to find its P/N or FRU.
Or do a vinegar test...
Scratch some lid paint away, put a drop of vinegar on that spot and see if it sizzles.

The 240 has 2 LCD options, type A and type B.
Could they have some influence?
T2x problem was more the inductors falling off or the BOD.
I'm not aware of T2x fuse problems.

A quick "Quectel EC25 in lenovo w430" search on Google shows that those Quectel thingies need a quack to fix them.

I strongly advise you to unlock that BIOS first. Get the W520 manual from the HMM link at the top of this page. BIOS chip location here . But while still PW-locked, you can put a SSD in it. If so, time to delete some 'old' stuff.

Lesson learned: do NOT buy any unknown/obscure SSDs.
Look for the likes of Samsung, Crucial, WD, Kingston.
