That makes sense.
Regarding the new battery, if I want to store it until needed, when I get it should I first charge to 100%, then discharge it to 40% and put it in a sealed container in the refrigerator? Or not charge it until closer to when I'll need it?

I see that thinkwiki has similar recommendations: - avoid charging if battery is nearly full, unless you will need its full capacity soon; keep it on the 30%-85% charged range --> What's the basis for 75-98% or 30-85%? - fully discharge, then fully charge battery when needed to recalibrate fuel gaug...

Battery care
Lenovo toolbox reported that the battery in my x220 is in poor condition and I'm getting a warranty replacement. The phone rep suggested: 1) Do the initial charge overnight, not when using the notebook 2) Run the battery reset function in battery maintenance in power management (which charges, disch...

The 5400 Hitachi seems a bit quieter than the 7200, according to the specs and Hitachi's descriptions. Speed isn't an issue for me. The WD is also described as quiet.

500gb drive for x220
I have an mSATA SSD for the OS and programs and a Hitachi 320gb 7200rpm HDD for data, music and video on my x220. I'd like to replace the HDD with a 500gb and am looking for advice on which one to get. My priorities are quiet operation and reliability. Speed doesn't really matter. Newegg lists four ...

Re: Bluetooth headset
Answering my own question, when I right click on the headset icon in devices and choose control, I get a panel which includes some headset configuration. Windows decided the headset had a readout, which it doesn't. I clicked on the no readout radio button and things worked.

I'm trying to use a plantronics 855 bluetooth headset with my x220 under win7. I can pair the headset with the x220 and the headset shows up in my list of devices. Re: x220 - noisy keyboard?
Will they really send me a new keyboard if I call and complain about a noisy spacebar? I'm rather hesitant to send the notebook, given some stories I've heard about warranty service. It would be great if they sent me a new keyboard and I could send the current one back. There are actually three diff...

Reseating the keyboard didn't help.
The spacebar is the issue. Releasing is louder than pushing.

x220 - noisy keyboard?
I just got an x220 and like it a lot. However, one issue is that the keyboard is noisy, especially the space bar - clacky is probably a good description.
Is this typical?
I removed it and put it back to install something, so maybe it's a bit loose, but it seems well seated and the screws are tight.

Any major issues replacing the fan? If I understand, a screwdriver, the HMM and some patience are what is required, without any particularly difficult work required. The fan on my x61s has been noisy, so I removed the keyboard and top frame, blew on the fan and reassembled. Re: Palm rest too hot
You might test by turning off wifi, then checking whether the palm rest still gets too hot. On my machine, the bottom is significantly hotter than the top, and turning off wifi makes the palm rest an acceptable temperature. Turning the power down usually makes the temperature acceptable, although so...

It seems so. I got mine from Ebay, don't forget to buy the bracket in case the seller doesn't include one with the card. I had to buy both things separately.[/quote] None of those include the bracket, but it seems rather inexpensive (assuming this works): http://www.ebay.com/itm/bracket-mini-half-i...

I'll look for one of those. Where did you get yours? Another alternative would be a USB wifi stick, but that's less appealing. You are right, it's the area around the wifi card.
I'll try changing power in the device manager - I'll try turning down the the power management setting by a notch or two. I'm currently a notch above center.

Palm rest too hot
The palm rest on my aged X61s has become uncomfortably hot. The area, two or so inches to the right of center, used to be warm, but recently has become much worse. Nothing has changed which might cause this, so far as I can tell. tpfancontrol has not shown much if any change, generally being in the ...

Re: X220 early review and pricing
Is there a reliable trend in Thinkpad pricing once a model starts selling, or is there no predictable pattern? In other words, would there be any pricing advantage to waiting a bit after the X220 starts selling, or would you likely have to wait a long time until the price comes down?

I never found a good answer for my machine. When I get a storm of hardware interrupts, I put it into suspend mode, then restart. This makes the problem go away for a while. With luck someone will have a better solution.

Updating the video driver seemed to have done the trick.
Now that it works, I can connect my VGA to s-video device and play videos on an older TV.
