Somebody swapped the display in the past for sure. It should be Flexview.
My thoughts exactly. R60 was offered with a non-IPS 15" SXGA+ panel, which would have been much cheaper to swap in during the heyday of that generation.

Not a good sign, I'm sorry to say. Motherboard gone south, most likely.

Given the age of the systems I'd just part them out or recycle them, but it's your call.

Welcome to the forum! I got 2 r40 thinkpads recently and neither of them power on. I tried the a.c. and battery and nothing happened. I tried the power button trick and nothing happened. I vaguely remember something about taping pins (19?20?) but that could've been back in the mini PCI days.

My T61p with Middleton's BIOS doesn't light the LED in Windows with AR9380 but most certainly does in Linux. I was never bothered by that fact enough to even contemplate doing anything about it.

Re: New CPU in R500?

The T7700 and the other early Merom-derived processors will not work, unless you were to add Merom's microcodes manually into the R500's BIOS. I believe the R500 is capable of using any 667MT/s, 800MT/s, and 1066MT/s late Merom processor and any Penryn processor available. This is what I can rememb...

Thanks for input but that was mi first choice, but sadly in HMM when "no power" issue only answer is to replace system board. I validate that charger is working. I have a hard time believing a T601 would even be okay for simple and basic home user tasks these days such as Netflix. Again, I can't do 720p YouTube without frame skip on a T601. I'm not sure either TBH. Realistically, just about anything that will work on 2000/XP will work fine on Win10. No it will not. There's a boatload of proprietary software where the compatibility was broken either in W8.x or W10. I'm curious if the A31 even shipped with Win9x? I don't believe so. I e...

Isn't it a firmware issue only? For instance the EM7345 WWAN in ThinkPad 8 tablet reads the carrier from SIM card upon boot and loads corresponding carrier-specific (if any) firmware. This is US specific issue I believe because there were separate firmware files for three US carriers and generic on...
