Big thanks to Bill and everyone else in getting the site back up and running so quickly after such a major outage. This was the first place I checked with the announcement of the Helix, so you can imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth when the forum wouldn't come up!

Re: Windows 8 and X220 Bluetooth

Well, apparently it was because I had disabled the BT radio while in Windows 7, and the hardware somehow remembers that (overriding even the BIOS setting). Since Lenovo has not yet released the Windows 8 version of Hotkey Integration, I installed the Windows 7 version in compatibility mode, and now ...

Re: Upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 8 promotion.

The form at windowsupgradeoffer.com does no verification of model or make of computer. The only thing it appears to check is that you entered a purchase date of June 2, 2012 or later. There is no way for them to verify in real-time what you entered is true. So type in anything you want, and wait for...

Windows 8 and X220 Bluetooth

Anyone have luck getting Windows 8 to enable and use Bluetooth on the X220? It worked fine under Windows 7 (able to pair with my PS3 BT remote control). The green BT icon status LED isn't lit up (the wifi one is), even though it is enabled in the BIOS. Fn+F5 no longer works to enable the radio (I on...

Oooooooooh ahhhhhhhhh!!! *enlightened* :D

As it happens, I had done a "blind" battery swap (9-cell for 6-cell, without turning over the laptop) as soon as I received it, and I have yet to deplete the 9-cell's initial charge. Never even thought to look in the battery compartment. Thanks!

Where to find Windows 7 license key on X220?

Hi, all! I recently upgraded from a 4.5-year old T60p to an X220 with Windows 7. I've created the boot and recovery media from Lenovo's install, wiped the drive, and put Windows 8 on it for now. If I want to restore Windows 7, I would prefer to use my Microsoft install DVDs. But to do so, I need a p...

Re: How to take care of battery?

What steps do you do to ensure an optimal lifespan for your Thinkpad battery? I use my T60p for presentations on my projection system, so it spends most of its life plugged into an Advanced Mini Dock, battery installed and AC plugged in. Once or twice a week, I take it with me on the road, and it a...

The program is installed on the T60 and it has to be running in order to capture data. The data is written to the hard drive in the T60. So have you tried installing the software on a USB key instead of the hard drive, and also logging the data to the same USB key? That should all but eliminate the...

There was a lot of finger-pointing from Adobe during the private beta test cycle for Photoshop CS4. Since reps from nVidia, AMD/ATI, etc. weren't in the forums to respond, it was difficult to tell where the fault and responsibility lay. I never did get the OpenGL features of the CS4 beta to work pro...

Jeff, I read your previous thread on the matter. What data logging software are you using? Is it not possible to have it record data to an arbitrary location? I second the suggestion from that thread to use a relatively inexpensive USB flash key instead of sinking a lot of money into an SSD. I'm obv...

There is probably some file sitting at the 5 GB mark that is preventing the volume from being shrunk any further. Get a proper disk defragmenter and optimizer to pack down all your files as close to the beginning of the drive as possible. Then try shrinking the volume again. I recommend JKDefrag for...

Yup, another vote for vLite 1.1.6 here. I had been running with a full retail install of Vista Ultimate on my T60p since last May or so. Thanks, finetuned! I've been slowly working my way through other how-to's that are newer, and I'll definitely give yours a try and provide some feedback.

I had 10.4.8 on the same laptop, and I recall it was much easier to get QE and CI support. :(

Unfortunately, all the FAQ's and how-to's that I've seen are rather outdated. They work fine with 10.4.8, but things have changed with 10.5.2. The file layout has changed a bit, and instructions to look for certain Info.plist strings, etc. no longer work.

Automatically switch to S/PDIF when docked?

Hello all, I have a T60p with the Advanced Mini Dock. I have the S/PDIF out on the dock hooked up to the optical input on my A/V receiver. I also have the DVI port on the dock connected to my projector. The T60p is running Vista Ultimate. When I dock the T60p, Vista correct detects that it now has a...

Re: Owner opinion about mobility of 15.0" Flexview Thin

I've used the 15" flexview at work and I liked it, but I didn't like the thickness so I got an X instead for myself last year. I went from an X40 (12" screen, 1024x768) to a T60p (15" FlexView, 1600x1200) and I do not regret it for a second. Yes, the X40 is super tiny and super light, but the scree...

No issues with high CPU temperatures here either... I usually see 50 to 51'C while idling in the Finder. This is with the battery meter and basic power management working on the 2623-DDU.
