Re: 701c Woes - RAM, CMOS Battery, Freezes...
The images are not there. Yes the memory error on the 701s is very common now and it just comes from motherboard age and loss of function. It's an issue with the soldered on RAM. The laptop may or may not boot or POST with that error. You can also put in an external memory chip and if it is just rig...

Re: Thinkpad 701C sound problems and error 119
Yes these boards do degrade with age. Also sometimes the connection between upper and lower board comes apart a bit. You can try pressing down carefully in the lower left quadrant of the keyboard to see if you can reseat the connection or disassemble.

Re: WTB: 486 Thinkpad
I have a very nice Thinkpad 500. 486 50 mhz cpu, has Windows 3.1 loaded. Its a mini laptop predecessor to the 701 series and has a monochrome display. Fully set up with a pcmcia network card. Haven't had it out for a couple years and would like to maybe find it a better home. Not a junker.

Turns out I looked through my stuff and I do have one NOS Transnote battery. Would one (1) do you any good? If I recall there are two plugged in at the same time.

Its a bit of an odd beast. Not Windows obviously not even an x86 processor. The Manual is still available I believe in the legacy files here. I will look for it and try to send you a link. http://ps-2.kev009.com/pccbbs/powerpc/ Legacy files at the above address. Looks like some boot floppies. http:/...

Re: IBM ThinkPad 701CS Screen issue
Where would I have to send it? If it were the inverter, all the lights would flash indicating the system has posted, but its not lighting the screen. Seems more likely it is the motherboard. I have motherboards, too.

Re: IBM ThinkPad 701CS Screen issue
I have any parts you might need except the actual screen. Inverters, etc. You can do a sort of basic diagnosis from the sequence of lights above the keyboard cover. Do any of them come on?

Also going to point out it has some significant value. I had one about 5 or 6 years ago that worked except for the screen but put out to an external monitor. Regret selling it. Still have the replacement screen I bought.

Compaq Sofpaq archive?
One of the things that sets this Community apart is the resources available for vintage machines. We have access to a complete archive of old Thinkpad utilities and drivers. I had someone reach out to me who has a bunch of old Compaq machines from the 486 and early Pentium era. The crown jewel is a ...

Re: HDD caddy for the 360
Been a while but I recall the cable used on the 170 and 340 mb will not work with a drive bigger than 504 mb? I remember snipping the outside 2 pins in the adapter. I can probably find and ship you a bigger disk for the cost of shipping. I have several 750/755/360 drives and even some empty caddies ...

Re: 701C hdd upgrade issue
Here I will post it for anyone. Bill sent me a CD .iso of the 755CD recovery and I somehow found 701C recovery files online. I combined them into one disk. There are 3 .isos there and also a picture of my setup for recovering a 701C using a 380 Thinkpad to run the CD. Let me know if there are any qu...

Re: 701C hdd upgrade issue
Just saw this for the record I have an .iso of the recovery image including an image of the necessary boot floppy on dropbox if anyone needs it. You need a vintage PC with a parallel port and CD drive and then a parallel to parallel cable and one of the docking bars for the 701 to make this work.

Checked my stock. I do not have an inverter like that but I do have a whole screen assembly from a monochrome 750. I know the screen is dead but I will crack it open and see if its the same. It does have brightness and contrast sliders like that.

FS: X301 from Morrow collection
Over a year ago I listed some laptops I picked up from Bill on a trip to GA in the pre-COVID days and am selling for him. Its taken a while but one of the last ones I have is an X301. 2777-CTO. It is a Core 2 Duo U9400 8 gigs RAM and a 160 gig SSD; DVD burner. I listed it unsuccessfully on eBay a co...

I think you have verified it. My memory is no match for the Manual. I recalled the interface on the outside of the laptop being the same across the 365 line but this says otherwise.
