Thinkpad keyboard wear (shiny, greasy keys)
Has Lenovo done anything to reduce the shine that develops on Thinkpad keys after say 6 months of use? I don't understand why the Thinkpad keys aren't coated with some kind of polymer that would slow down the wear, seeing as one of their main selling points is durability. Even the sexiest Thinkpad s...

If you are coming from a ThinkPad, you will be greatly annoyed and possibly disappointed with the HP nc2300, 2510p, 2530p line of notebooks. I just got the HP 2710p tablet (1.33ghz ULV C2D, 12" LED, 120gb 5400rpm) for $700 new on Ebay. Here are the things that are lacking on the HP compared to a TP...

I've given up on Lenovo. Their engineering dept (I think based in Japan) is tone-deaf. They still use the crappiest screens available and then blame it on the TN film manufacturers, even though Sony, Apple and HP all use TN films too and their screens look much better than Lenovo's. The whole X300 l...

Just browsing, word processing, Excel, programming and occasional movie. My viewing angle requirements aren't extreme, it's just simply staring at the screen. I don't like the fact that the top of the screen is a different color and shade from the bottom of the screen without even moving my head as ...

Returned my X200 this week
Though I really enjoyed the form factor of the X200 (2.26ghz), I found the display to be really, really lacking. I thought I would get used to it, but I just couldn't coming from my matte Macbook Pro. The X200 has really poor vertical viewing angles, so bad that a solid black background that looks b...

Looks pretty sweet. I like the shorter depth. Also the bezel and hinge appear to be more reinforced? Maybe we won't have the bezel detachment problems anymore.

The X200 is not a subnotebook in my eyes. The X61 is! Link: http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/34766.jpg I actually prefer the X200's dimensions over the X61, it fits over my lap better. I sit down with my legs slightly spread, so the wider dimensions are better. The X61 is a bit awkward to put o...

But you are sacrificing HUGE build quality and reliability with a Vaio laptop. And I wouldn't say carbon fiber is desirable over the X200's magnesium alloy cover. The Thinkpad X300 is also carbon fiber. In fact, the $800 cheaper Sony SR series uses magnesium alloy, while the Z series uses carbon fi...

It looks like the Macbook keyboard (but Macbook copied the old Sony X505 keyboard). The key travel distance for the Sony is 2.5mm which is I believe identical to the Thinkpad (and long for a laptop keyboard). The action is very smooth yet solid, and it's very very quiet. The Macbook has much shorter...

naus, If I understood you correctly, you have hands on experience from the Panasonic Y7 and currently own the Lenovo X300. If that is the case you are the man I want to talk to. I am considering my next notebook purchase and the two notebooks left on my shortlist are the upcoming X301 and the curre...

Count me in as another one of the disappointed. The bezel on the X200 (12.1", 1280x800) is HUGE, making it about the same footprint as the Sony Z (13.1", 1600x900). X200 dimensions: 29.5cm W x 21cm D x 2.07-3.2cm H (with the 4 cell battery), weight 2.95-3.7 lbs (with 4 to 9 cell battery) Sony Z dime...

Or get the new Sony Z-series: 13.1" screen (thin bezel), 1600x900 resolution LED anti-glare display, carbon fiber + aluminum casing (3.4 lbs incl battery), ctrl on the outside (left) of fn key, 2.5mm keystroke travel (same as Thinkpads), Blu-Ray writeable option or DVD-RW, SSD option, HDMI port, SD ...

I will definitely NOT say this is a "superb notebook" for "business users". The Panasonic CF-Y7 would be one, it's cheaper, has a bigger and better screen, is more silent and doesn't have the insane Function key on the Control key spot. Oh, and last but not least: It's much cheaper and can handle w...

Seriously, for a 13" display, I would much rather have a top of the line 1280x800 screen (or at least on par with the Macbook and VAIO screens) than a crapola 1440x900 screen. What the hell is the Thinkpad team thinking? These aren't cheap computers. We should at least have the OPTION of selecting a...

How often do the 8-cell X61 batteries need to be replaced?
How many years does the 8-cell X61 battery hold its charge before deteriorating considerably after a fresh charge? 1 year? Or 2 years? Assuming daily use (300 charge cycles per year)...
The OEM battery seems awfully expensive ($179.99). Do the knockoffs give the same battery life?

X200 or Sony Z-Series
I was one click away from buying an X200 when I read a post about the Sony Z-series, which completely killed my urge to get the X200 right away. On paper, the Sony Z-series completely kicks the X200's butt for about 200 bucks more. Is anyone else now weighing on which to buy? The Z-series' black alu...
