Re: battery wont charge... options?
Harryc: Nice comparison indeed! :D Ursus: Whatever electronic circuitry is used to support and optimize the charging and discharging cycles of a battery, there are some physical and chemical constraints that cannot be overcome. Batteries age and loose their properties with time and/or use. There is ...

Re: What could be causing this?
In my case vista sp2 32bit. It never happened under xp (sp3, 32bit). Power Manager cannot be causing this, it was never installed under vista. Apart from hardware drivers, the fingerprint software and the Hotkey driver are the only two Thinkvantage utilities installed. Under xp, PM is installed. Dyn...

Re: What could be causing this?
My T61 with an nvidia card and a santa rosa motherboard has also shown this exact same behaviour. The ccfl is definetely not the issue, since the mouse pointer is normaly bright. If I am not mistaken, this only occurred when resuming on ac power, after being put in hibernation on battery with the Le...

Re: Fan ran constantly and now has died... one fan error
The reason why the fan in my T61 kept running more frequently with time was dust. This became clear once it was replaced and, after a short period of staying off more than on, it slowly reverted to running constantly again, as it died before the replacement (with no changes in the BIOS, any settings...

Re: Battery drain when machine is off and unplugged
Just a wild guess: try if disabling the "High Definition Audio Controller" under "System Devices" in the hardware manager stops the battery drain. Service Pack 2 for Vista introduced a bug which caused this device to draw power when put to hibernation while mains was connected (and only then). Unplu...

If the above Trick works and you are using Vista, the following will most likely be your solution:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970030/en-us
It may also apply to Windows 7, but I would first make a back up before trying it out on W7.

Re: How to control battery charging in Win 7 RC
When I wiped (via a fresh install) Power Manager from my T61, the battery was at 57%. Power Manager was previously set to start charging at below 40% and stop charging at 60%. Before re-installing Power Manager, I used the notebook in several short sessions on battery, in order to see what its charg...

Re: Question about an "Admin edit"
It was no mistake. You tried to hijack a Win 7 thread. Cheers, Bill B. Hello Bill, thank you. I assume it was you who edited it. May I ask if you remember what I had posted? And if so, whether it indeed warranted that all of the post (including the answer to one of the OP's questions) be deleted? G...

Re: Question about an "Admin edit"
For a change, I wasn't the admin in question either, however the "but, mommy, you let him do it" defense doesn't get very far here. And it just irritates me to no end. We're busy; we miss things. When we see something, we fix it. We try to fix it right and do so most of the time. Sometimes we make ...

Hello Rkawakami, thanks for replying, but is it possible to contact the admin who edited it? I am rather new to the forum and admit that I didn't notice that the original post was in the windows 7 board (I had made a google search and this topic came up there). Having seen that none of the original ...

Question about an "Admin edit"
I hope this is the right place (or at least not the wrong one) to post this question. If it is indeed the wrong one, apologies. One of my posts was edited by a member of the admin group. I would like to contact the admin who edited it, but I don't know how to find out who it was. When clicking on "a...

Re: T61 CPU temperature - Penryn vs Merom
"Performance on demand" dynamically changes the speed multiplier according to the real time load. Higher load causes the processor to run at a higher frequency. On the other hand, if the load goes under the specified threshold, a lower frequency is set so that the power consumption and heat dissipat...

Re: T61 CPU temperature - Penryn vs Merom
HFat: in automatic mode (which is set by default), RMClock recognizes my T7500 as a desktop processor. By setting the processor type manualy to "mobile" (under advanced settings), the lowest voltage that can be set becomes 0.8500 V. RMClock does a wonderful job in keeping the processor temperatures ...

Re: Going to do a fresh install of XP on my T60
The above recommendations apply to a clean install from a windows disk. I don't know whether they would also apply to updating a factory install (which already includes all of the drivers and Thinkvantage programs) to the latest versions. Neither do I know whether System Update takes such issues in ...

Re: Suggested Upgrade sequence for T61
Doesn't a licence vor vista cover both 32bit and 64bit versions? If I am not mistaken, you would only need a 64bit Vista installation dvd to use with your existing vista product key (you can call the Microsoft activation hotline to check on that). That would save you the money for another os licence...

Re: Going to do a fresh install of XP on my T60
Hello Thinkpac, maybe my experiences are of some interest, otherwise please excuse the long post. I understand you intend to do a factory install, but you may want to consider a clean install. I don't have a comparison between a factory installed xp and a clean install of xp. My T61 came with vista ...

If all else fails: check whether deactivating "High Definition Audio Controller" under "System Devices" stops the battery drain. If so, take a look at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970030/en-us (released on 2009.07.02) After monts of desperation it finally saved my T61 from loosing its charge VER...

Re: Hibernation draws battery power?!
Hello to everyone, I have been experiencing the same problems. In the past, my T61 showed no signs of drain, provided all the right settings were made (no wake-on-lan, etc.). Since SP2 (and no change in any of the settings), nothing but removing the battery or hibernating while on battery prevented ...
