Re: T400 Memory Madness
Over the years I've been supporting businesses (and myself) with Thinkpads, I've had lots of issues with 'off brand' memory despite the fact that the specs appear to be compatible. So for the last 5 years or so I've pretty much stubbornly stuck to either original IBM/Lenovo memory, or Kingston memo...

Re: T400 Memory Madness
I find it hard to believe that all those different sticks of memory would be bad. There is always a chance of receiving DOA memory, but you seem like you are having terrible luck. Two things that are popping into my head, one that a BIOS update could potentialy help. I don't recall seeing anything ...

Re: T400 Memory Madness
Corsair has bad rep with Thinkpads? I didn't know that. I should clarify. I don't know if that's true. I just kept running across statements to that effect when researching this problem. I appreciate your suggestion - and if necessary will try that, but for the moment I was wondering what suggestio...

T400 Memory Madness
So, as some of you know, I've been working towards upgrading my Lenovo T400 which has been almost entirely unused since I bought it. So far, I've upgraded the CPU, and have been trying to upgrade the memory. In upgrading the memory, I first looked up the specs: Memory PC3-8500 Non-Parity (NP) Double...

Yeah, I saw the Displayport - the resolution freaked me out though. I couldn't find that resolution listed as a valid resolution with my display adapter.
Any ideas where else to look to find all supported resolutions by the adapter?

Re: ThinkPad SATA HDD Bay Adapter III - Can't use my own HDD?
Just figured I'd connect these in case this thread ever comes up on Google and there is any confusion. The drive will not fit into the adapter with a caddy attached. Sorry but you are wrong. Ah-hah! I must have had in mind "rails" instead of "caddy". Certainly won't fit with rails installed. And, I ...

So, what is Lenovo talking about then? I looked here and don't see rails: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-73170 but it does seem the drive is mounted in one of their trays/drive-caddy, which I presume does not come with the adapter. So, I couldn't find a Scorpio Black above 250gb that could be bought locally or bought online and be delivered before next week. So, I got a 250gb drive on Amazon.com, which will be here tomorrow. Ended up costing a trivial amount in the scheme of things. 250gb is marginally better than the 160gb dr...

Re: Thinkpad T400 stock Travelstar -> WD Scorpio Black = Ok?
From what I've found via searching this forum - the answer seems to be yes. I'm unclear about the SATA v. SATA II and my T400 though, and also about the max size my system will handle. The online specs say that it will accept up to 320GB drives, but I'm not sure if that's just because this was the m...

Re: Where to buy thermal pad for T400 (2767-CP6) heat-sink?
why is there a thermal pad there to begin with? Why not make the heatsink sit right on top of it so thermal grease can be used. Is it to contain the heat locally more than to cool the component? I didn't understand that aspect of the design.

It gave it a slightly less than perfectly smooth texture. This was another reason I applied a very thin layer of Arctic Silver. I still don't even know what the chip is. Re: Where to buy thermal pad for T400 (2767-CP6) heat-sink?
I cleaned it with alcohol, but that removed a tiny amount of the material itself. To make up for it, I applied a very thin layer of Arctic Silver to the component. While I don't usually mix thermal products, I figured that in this case it probably wouldn't hurt it. Put everything back together and b...

How about a coffee filter?
Is 70% isopropyl alcohol strong enough, I don't think they have 90% or above locally, I'd have to order it.
I also have Arcticlean Purifier.... which I think is primarily alcohol.

Where to buy thermal pad for T400 (2767-CP6) heat-sink?
On the heatsink for my T400, thermal grease was used for the CPU and the GPU. There is a third component though covered by the heatsink - which I'd have to look up to know what it is and does. Anyways, instead of thermal grease, there is a thermal pad there. In removing the heat-sink to upgrade the ...
