Re: Thinkpad X200 in 2022
Just "upgraded" my x200t to an x201t, had lv core2 duo, now had i5 (2 core) with ht. Very noticable speed difference. (couldn't buy a CPU fan in the USA for less than the machine was worth, but a new "tested" MB/lower case was cheap) An ssd makes a huge difference on older machines, I stuck my old 6...

the 16gb sodimm i took out wasn't loose, appears to be a typical ddr4 ram socket/retainer setup... Mines driving a pair of 32" fhd gaming monitors via the dock at the moment. Re: X300 fan died, possible to replace fan only, not heatsink?
I had same issue when I got mine, and had to replace it again a few years later. I read the part# off the fan and ordered that. (quitting smoking helped a lot) First time bought the whole heat pipe etc arrangement (already had new fan) second time, dropped the new fan on the spare hsf assy and swapp...

For fun, installed win11 on my X300.
For fun, I installed win11 on my x300. (after making backup on the 2TBs of spinning rust in the ultrabay, I'm primarily a Linux user). I did this with a rufus generated usb, files copied back onto a directory on the desktop for an upgrade install rather than nuking things from orbit, as Win10 worked...

docks Thank you for the feedback. Do you think $120 is too much if it includes an SSD and a docking station? Yes, perfectly usable win 10 or Linux box, been using X200T hooked up to a 32" hd monitor for a few years as my "desktop" with a 2tb of spinning rust in the ultrabay. It recently became an X2...

Re: X260 has no AMT option
You didn't miss out on anything. AMT had known, unpatchable (in hardware) remotely exploitable vulnerablities, so bad that Intel even recommends nuking it from orbit, just to be sure. Most decent laptop makers provided tools to do so, or at least render it nonfunctional. On the x260 and likely all l...

recommended new 49+ 6 cell batteries for x300/301 source?
Lenovo denies the part#s exist any more, or even the x300/x301 for that matter.
I suspect in most cases that the cheap batteries are really the same as the expensive ones with a different sticker.
Can anyone suggest a reliable battery vendor?

Re: Doinn it wrong again...em7355 (m.2 card) install into X200T or X300
Swapped the Intel7260 AC and gobi 4000 over to the X300, the adapter+card Gobi 5000 setup is too thick to go in the X300, although I was able to verify it is alive. Reception of both wifi and GPS immensely better in the X300, GPS had a hard time getting a lock indoors in the X200, and the range was ...

Doinn it wrong again...em7355 (m.2 card) install into X200T or X300
OK, slapped a $35 Gobi4000 and an intel 7260 AC card in the X200T a few weeks ago, working groovy except for the Intel BT, which doesn't seem to work for a lot of folks... Then an Ebay notification popped up for gobi 5000 for $50, em7355, m.2 card, so i ordered it from USA and the minipcie<>ngff wwa...

Re: Android-x86 KitKat build for ThinkPad Tablets
wacom-input works on my X200T... for some definition of "works" It misses the last ~1/2" of the screen to the right, and the botom 1/2" as well, has a significant offset, and no amount of jacking with the calibration seems to help. OTOH the latest kernels (32 or 64 bit) and the wacom pen work perfec...

X200T, win8.1 and power manager
I have been running Win8 on my X200T since it came out now, also updated to Win8.1 when it first came out, restored from backups as the "working OGL enabled" Intel GMA4500 driver got borked and I need OpenGL support for a couple apps I use. In any case, tried to re-update to 8.1, hilarity ensued, wo...

I have two of those esata + USB3 units
One was DOA
the other only works as USB3. It does work well for that.
(the second device is never seen under any OS using any driver)
Can anyone recommend the Startech dual USB3?

Carry a spare, the tablets dock can charge a spare battery (but you cannot use it for power, plugged in there) 6-ish hours is about right when the machine/battery was new. Power consumption is way down with 3.8 kernels.
Try adding nohz=1 to your boot command line, enables tickless clock.

Re: Help with memory (RAM) for X200
I have an X200T. Just upped it to 8G with some a gskill kit off Amazon for $42. Now the only resulting "issue" is that it can cold boot 2-3x faster than recovering from hibernation with a busy system. Win8 was trivial, and provided a huge speed boost vs. Vista or win7 The X200 can take a std 2.5" dr...

Re: T400 SSD, or mixed SSD HDD?
That SanDisk Extreme is an awesome SSD. You can find bad reviews about any product. The Momentus XT is not all that much better than a non-hybrid HDD. The RAM is dirt cheap, get the 2x4GB and a 64bit OS on that Sandisk and you will not be disappointed. The 750GB Momentus XT I installed in my X200T ...

Re: How long in average does it take for x220 to comletely boot?
Without question get Windows 8. The speed of the new OS coupled with the upgrade price of $40.00 (in the US) make it a no brainer. Luckily there are free start button add-on programs available for the desktop which make it pretty much a Windows 7 machine except faster. Tim S I only have a lowly X20...
