Re: 1024*768 AFFS screen for x61s

For that screen you will need the same adapter cable and mod procedure as with the SXGA+ screen.
The pinout and the cutting work on the frame are the same.

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

I have had 11 -101 screens pass through my hands. And I remember seeing the retro-tv effect several times over the years. No theories as to the cause. Here is a picture from the german forum of a T60 with a very similar effect: https://imgur.com/qej2GWS Cause unknown, and it went away after several ...

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

Thanks, but I do have lots of dark gray test images.

I can say that the retro-tv effect can get better by time. Takes several months.

I always thought the effect was due to static electricity in the layers of the screen. But that was simly guessing.

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

I tweaked it the other direction and the problem disappeared. By how much did you turn it? Tried it on a screen without the retro-tv effect with no visible effect. I have two screens with darker left side edge and corners. But I cannot imagine how I could have managed to change the adjustment of VR...

Re: USB3 via WWAN slot of X61s

The left side is even worse. You will have problems with interference because of the cable lenght. Probably a working cable will turn out to be too thick for a X61.

I do not think a USB C socket will work. The devices will expect a USB C controller to negotiate what the socket can do.

all I need to add is a USB3.0 socket:
That is not easily done. The USB 3.0 socket is nearly 3mm deeper than the USB 2.0 socket.
If you cut out a piece of the motherboard on one of the right 2 USB sockets to make the USB 3.0 fit, you will lose the 5V power supply of the socket.

The Expresscard housing is from a X200.

Power from the WWAN slot is good for one USB 3.0 HDD.

Just saw this on aliexpress: https://imgur.com/LOtQGMr

The DUPONT DISLAY ENHANCEMENTS (= DuPont Vertak direct-bonding adhesive) sticker belongs on a -101 screen, never on a -100.
So on this screen at least the -100 sticker is fake.

I thought only the HV121P01-101 had the sticky goo (with the bubbles), and the HV121P01-100 and XGAs had edge bonding/tape?
That is correct. There are no XGA with direct-bonding.

Yes, you have to be very careful with any kind of liquid on the screen. I use a piece of cloth smaller than the screen surface. Only this cloth is soaked with the solvent, and then covered with a piece aluminum foil to prevent the solvent from rapidly vaporising. After 10 to 20 minutes some glue can...

What is the min and max diameter of your 3-strand wire? Too thin for me to get a good measurement. The cable was 1.5mm, 7groups of 7 wires each. Did you use same product as el-sahef? The important part about the braided cable is that the group of strands retains the curly helix form.

Have you considered using string rather than braided steel cable? Something like UHMWPE or Kevlar, or even braided nylon? A common usage of the first is for fishing line Tried all that. Cutting the glue layer with a braided steel cable takes less than 10 minutes. (straight wire wont work) Getting all the glue cleaned up is still a ***** affair.
