X230t tablet with outdoor screen
My apologies for hijacking this thread, but I'm curious --- how good / useful is the outdoor screen? I ask 'cause my ThinkPad x61 is supposed to have an outdoor viewable display, and it's nowhere near as visible outdoors in bright / direct sunlight as the transflective LCD on my Fujitsu Stylistic ST...

Re: ThinkPad Book
Things which the book makes me sad about: - that IBM wiped their brilliant ``Pad'' and did models which didn't support stylus input - that Go Corporation's PenPoint didn't make it in the marketplace - that OS/2 for Pens was never widely available for sale - that IBM doesn't have a version of OS/2 wa...

Re: Thinkpad: A Different Shade of Blue
Yes, it's quite interesting, and an interesting addendum to Jerry Kaplan's _StartUp_.
Makes one very sad for what might have been, and the current state of the computer industry.
Every so often I'll look around, hoping to find a copy of OS/2 for Pens.

Yeah, that's the other failing in comparison to the Stylistic, which is a slate.
It also won't fit in the leather envelope which I keep my machine in my laptop bag in.

Upgrading to SSD is the real game-changer when it comes to speeding up a computer IMO.

Re: X61t, still running like a charm
I've been pretty pleased w/ mine, though I always get a bit sad when contemplating using it outdoors, compared to my Fujitsu Stylistic ST-4121 which has a transflective, truly outdoor-viewable display. Not that thrilled w/ the performance, currently using Vista 32-bit (Business if it makes a differe...

Re: I've been loaned a MacBook Pro 13 as an experiment
The nicest, most efficient, most flexible operating system and graphical interface I ever had occasion to use was NeXTstep, Go Corp.'s PenPoint was a close second, and there was a brief window where I had a NeXT Cube on my desktop and an NCR-3125 running PenPoint as a portable --- aside from the bat...

Re: I've been loaned a MacBook Pro 13 as an experiment
I've actually used my wife's iPad Retina Mini and the display is impressive however it doesn't make much of a difference when you have milk bottles for glasses unfortunately. The scale of the stuff on the display is more important than the DPI to me. The nice thing w/ Retina is that one gets small ...

Re: I've been loaned a MacBook Pro 13 as an experiment
You should've tried something more in-line w/ your expectations - Retina display - installed LibreOffice if you wanted to open OpenOffice files Agree that the newer machines have gone backwards in a couple of ways, esp. the keyboard. Things to really like about Mac OS X (née NeXT/OPENstep): - Miller...

Get a copy of the book _ThinkPad: A Different Shade of Blue_ --- I believe that it covers the original design / process in detail.
Also, check your library for old computer magazines --- the TP700 was widely reviewed and I'm pretty sure construction details were mentioned.

It's a very small bit of give, less than 1mm, less than a Fujitsu stylus I mislike.
I'd probably live with it if the pen silo wasn't messed up. Instead I'll fix up the other pen.

Thanks! For once though, I'm lucky. Used a dental pick and managed to get the old stylus out, and I'm typing this up on the machine after the extraction. Stylus options / preferences / issues?
Just got a stylus from an eBay seller --- pleased, but.... - the side switch is _really_ stiff --- hopefully it'll loosen up a bit - the pen tip is really soft --- softer than I prefer --- is that luck of the draw, or a Lenovo specification? (On Fujitsu styluses it was luck of the draw in my experie...

Re: Super high resolutions on laptops
It's unfortunate that Microsoft hasn't done better at waling their U. I. resolution independent ad that Apple has seized on it as a way to sell hardware.
I'd like my x61 a bit more if it had the 1400 x 1050 display if I could get the stylus to work in Mac OS X.

Given that the update in question, Windows Vista Update Module KB932063 is over 4.1 GB, one wonders at the need to install it, or what it could possibly be (that's larger than SP1 or 2, isn't it?).

I've used xxclone in the past --- if I can't get Mac OS X on my x61, I guess I'll be using it to clone Vista unless I can find a reasonably priced windows 7 license, or set up Linux so that it's workable.
