X230 Tablet high-res photo

Here's a photo of the X230 Tablet courtesy of Microsoft:

And here's a high-res photo.

There's a tiny bit of information on the source page (slide 7 of 8).

I have an X41 Tablet, an X60 Tablet, and an X61 Tablet. The 60/61 both have SXGA+ displays, and the 41, of course, is just XGA. I can confirm that neither the X41 Tablet nor the X60 Tablet suffer from the sparkly effect that the X61 Tablet has. My T60p with UXGA IPS and A31p's with UXGA IPS do not s...

More about Enhanced Pointer Precision

That's why it's great that this is an optional setting, so we can both be happy. But regardless of either of our own preferences, I think everyone should experiment with all of these settings to find what is most comfortable for them. With the sensitivity cranked up the way I like (TrackPoint...

You're halfway there

There are two settings for the TrackPoint sensitivity. Your mouse control panel should also have a TrackPoint or UltraNav tab, with its own slider for TrackPoint sensitivity. Slide that one all the way to the right and click Apply. You may then want to back off the Pointer Options slider a notch or ...

A discrepancy

Are you sure that eBay machine has both SXGA+ and MultiTouch? If you click the More detailed specs link in the listing, it shows "WVA SXGA+ TFT SuperView" just like all the other SXGA+ X61t's. There's no mention of MultiTouch.

...does it convert from P-ATA to S-ATA drivers too? Indeed it does! Universal Restore takes care of the HAL (e.g. uniprocessor vs. multiprocessor) and the disk controller drivers (IDE, SCSI, SATA). Then it lets Windows plug&play handle the rest of the drivers. As you mentioned, you need to take car...

Or use Acronis Universal Restore

Here's another approach that is MUCH simpler: 1) Buy Acronis True Image Workstation and Acronis Universal Restore . 2) Install both Acronis products on your old machine. 3) Make an Acronis boot CD with Universal Restore on it. 4) Make a complete image backup to an external drive. 5) Connect the exte...

VMware

To clarify and add to JD's post, by far the easiest way to experiment with Linux on your ThinkPad is to run it in a virtual machine instead of dual booting.

Go get the free VMware Player and take your pick from the prebuilt virtual machines and you'll be up and running.

Use the free VMware Player and install Linux in a virtual machine. Much better solution than dual-booting.

Not goo gone

Goo Gone is safe for your windshield because it is glass. The ThinkPad cover uses a rubberized paint. The Goo Gone label says do not use on rubber. That seems a bit too close for comfort. If you must try it, test the Goo Gone on the bottom of the case first. I recommend the simple mechanical approac...

How I did it

Forgot to mention... To remove the outside sticker on my T60p, I used the plastic toothpick from my Swiss Army Knife to poke at the corner of the sticker a bit. The tip has just enough sharpness to get under the corner, and once that's up the sticker comes right off. I kept the toothpick flat agains...

WD-40? Not!

Now you are really scaring me. WD-40 on a ThinkPad? Maybe on your A31p with its unpainted black plastic, but is that safe on a painted ThinkPad? I wish all ThinkPads had the simple unpainted plastic finish of the A30-A31 series - it's the most durable of any of them, and it keeps looking good as you...

Why would a stickerless palm rest be weird? One of the first things I do when I get a new ThinkPad is take off all those stickers. It looks better and is more comfortable.

I think the WxP perks are totally overrated. Naturally, you should set up your machine in the way that suits you best. If you don't like ClearType, so be it. Re: Don't rule out W2K

What you would gain back if done properly would be more than 60MB of RAM, and potential speed improvement without a lot of apps swapping space in the kernel. You would give up ClearType for that? Not me. My eyes come first. Also you would give up XP's prefetch optimization, taking away part...

Re: Xr41 Tablet has better wifi signal strength than T60p

T60p = 8% X41T = 33% I had just the opposite experience traveling last week with my X41t and T60p. At one place we stayed, the X41t would not hold a wireless signal at all, while the T60p did fine. yea you gotta practically perform surgery to change memory on them right? I think that's exaggerating a bit... I can put a memory module in a T60 in about 2 minutes. It's not that hard. Stick with XP

It would be a really bad idea to downgrade a T60[p] to Windows 2000 in an attempt to improve its performance. It wouldn't be any faster - more likely it would be slower. Even if it somehow ran a wee bit faster, you would never gain back all the time you spent fiddling with it. And you would lose Cle...
