Re: Panasonic's new SV-series

https://panasonic.jp/cns/pc/products/sv7l/

This was also on reddit and I felt I had to share it for some discussion. Does anyone have experience with Panasonic's let's note laptops (like build quality, keyboard, trackpad, ease of part replacement, is the ram module(s) soldered?, etc)

Re: X201s, to buy or not?

X201s is very rare, and $212 is actually a good price if the shape is good as well. If this system is for M$ of any kind, and you're not into gaming or CAD design it will do very good when equipped w/SSD. It's IMO the best 12" 16:10 system. I7 version runs hot. As for the display, there is nothing ...

X201s, to buy or not?

I saw an X201s in a "Items-From-Japan" (Intel i5, 1440x900 screen resolution, 8 gb of RAM, 120 gb HDD, OS looks like Win7) surplus store yesterday. Was thinking of getting it, but I wanted your opinions first. Is it still worth it in 2018? What are it's pros and cons? What can it do and not do compa...

Re: What OS do you use/recommend for T61

I've been watching the youtube channel distrotube, and I like what I see in the linux distros Anti X and Q4OS (low RAM usage, among others).

By the way, how is the T61 with Intel GPU when watching youtube, can it do 1080p with no problems, or is it limited to 720p?

I'm tempted to get one myself (I'll get the UK layout though), so when the warranties on the Thinkpad T25 expires and they flood the secondary market, I'll be ready. XD

Not to rain on the parade or anything, but aren't AMD laptops kinda run hot ("AMD turned my laptop into a toaster" is the common refrain)? I hear that complaint from almost all my peers who have AMD-based laptops.

Re: T420/420s is has spectre/meltdown fix

Hi. My new roommate happens to own a T420s. After downloading the file, what's the next step? Does he just click the file and the BIOS will update itself? First, check the BIOS settings. IIRC some models have an option to allow BIOS flashing. Disconnect from the Internet, then temporarily disable a...

I did a double check on the SG Carousell, the only 15.0-inch Thinkpad T60 being sold there has a screen resolution of 1024x768, while the rest are batteries or docks for said Thinkpad series.

I guess I'll keep looking. XD

What's a good distro for T60/T61/Frankenpad-type (or core 2 duo era period) machines? Basically one that works 100% out of the box and is lightweight yet functional?

Re: Please give advice on purchasing a used IBM Thinkpad T60p in 2018

I don't think I have the luxury of time to set everything up (I've heard Archlinux doesn't come out of the box ready to work ASAP and that I have to spend time using the command line terminal) just to go to Archlinux's desktop then click display properties. I just want to determine the screen resolu...

Isn't Archlinux for experts? I've only used (as in used for word processing and email) Linux Mint and the vanilla Ubuntu distros, and that was on a university library PC. XD

It's like this, besides what axur-delmeria said, Philippine Customs Bureau will make the customs/duties calculations without you seeing it (literally in a back room and you're not allowed to see the calculations, no transparency here) - hence the possibility of getting cheated. What do I use the expansion slots (in particular the express card) for in the T60/T60p/T601 Frankenpad? Can I plug-and-play a USB 3.0 adapter and it'll work fine?

(Also, why is it so hard to find a UXGA Thinkpad T60/T60p?)

Where to look for used Thinkpads in Singapore, Hongkong, and Taiwan?

I might go to Singapore, Hong Kong or Taiwan within the summer vacation on official business, but I'll also take time to look for used Thinkpads (T60 and T60p in particular). Can anyone suggest locations where I can search for 2nd-hand Thinkpads in these places?

I hope with the advancements in technology they can just make a modern iteration of the 15.0-inch sized T60 or T60p w/ 4:3 aspect ratio, full HD screen that isn't dim, UK-style 7-row keyboard, thinklight, screen latch system, and all the input/output ports we could ever want. XD

A random question, when IBM/Lenovo says: "this is a 15-inch T60/T60p", does it mean the unit/chassis as a whole is 15 inches long when measured across the diagonal, but the actually screen might be diagonally slightly smaller than 15.0 inches even if the bezel is relatively thin? I'm just p'd off that the Customs Bureau here in the Philippines tends to steal stuff/put excessive duties and/or taxes so that you'll give up on claiming your item(s). That's the main reason I can't get anything via eBay, etc. (Basically anything from overseas) *sigh* ^ IIRC if the value of the pa...
