Re: Trying to boot tinycore Linux from PCMCIA
That's very strange. Parameters look fine. Are you sure the changes are saved in the file? msdos.sys has read only attribute, to make chages to it this attribute has to be removed.

Re: Trying to boot tinycore Linux from PCMCIA
I think it has nothing to do with RAM. Did you try preparing your CF card as discussed it that same thread you refer to? In particular posts ##10-13. I don't know much about Linux, but I'd first make sure that your setup can boot to MS-DOS, and then proceed with linux. Look I’m a little bit of a no...

Re: UltraBay Zip Drive for 7xx series
Ah, sorry to hear that. Still good that you got a refund.
The only quiestion is that where did they get the pictures of that drives. Not the most common and thing (and not a bestseller either). Actually these are the only pictures of that IBMZIP. I'd rather think it's an abandoned store.

Re: UltraBay Zip Drive for 7xx series
I've taken a punt and ordered 5. Website name looks well dodgy. If it didn't have a real USA address, I'd be even more suspicious. We'll wait and see what happens. Do you know what thinkpad they're supposed to fit? Look likes maybe a 755-era machine? Cool! Really curious whether they will arrive ev...

UltraBay Zip Drive for 7xx series
Didn't know there existed Zip drives for old Thinkpads that fit into the ultrabay. IBM never stops surprising. Briefly mentioned at Thinkwiki https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraBay_Thick_Zip_100_Drive And what's even better is that someone sells them for cheap. https://www.youxinkt.com/product/Vst-...

Re: Restored 'DIN Grey' German IBM Thinkpad 750c
Great job restoring the laptop! And it was really good luck to find the matching keyboard. FYI it's actually sometimes possible to save a pasworded HDD. I removed the password from my IBM 850 MB hdd that came in a 755cd. I used Victoria software (https://hdd.by/victoria/), not sure which version it ...

Re: Question on IBM 3545-001 Dock I
Just a hint if you don't have the key for your dock. I could pick mine with some homemade tools but that took me long and it was more like a fluke. So I bought the cheapest picking set for like $4 and was able to pick the lock in no time with these tools. (Note I'm LPL's subscriber too :) ) https://...

Re: ThinkPad 750 TV Tuner Pack
Thanks for the video, that's the impression I'd got from reading the various accounts, but of course it's good to see it in action. I think the lack of any downloadable software was also very telling, remember in Win 3.1 days even things like Intel Indeo were add-ons for video playback. Any sort of...

Re: ThinkPad 750 TV Tuner Pack
I've finally done a very short video. It dispels any erroneous information about this tuner requiring drivers of any sort. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp2RMttq7l0&feature=share I forgot to try and find a smaller composite jack to make my own converter when I placed my last mouser order, but it'...

Re: ThinkPad 750 TV Tuner Pack
This is actually good news :) If there are no drivers, then I assume the tuner disables the BIOS, "occupies" the laptop and just streams video to the display. So yes, one should just plug it in and turn it on. It doesn't quite work that way. I think you need to wait a few seconds for it to initiali...

Re: ThinkPad 750 TV Tuner Pack
Oh, it's great this tuner was bought by a forum member! Is that the one sold recently for $50? I've seen it on ebay, but I'm not able to buy from ebay anymore. Does is actually work? Looks like it has a composite in connector, so you should be able to test it somehow without antenna signal. I'm curi...

Yeah, looks like you need a different card. It can be either 34 or 54mm, but should have "Expresscard" written on it.

That's strange. X230 has 54mm Expresscard slot. Is your card actually a Expresscard or Cardbus/PCMCIA? Can you post a picture.

By the way, ThinkDan, isn't two sliders an indication od a passive matrix? What makes you think it's a TFT display? It's a TFT. The announcement letter states that the 820 and 850 were offered with 640x480 or 800x600 black matrix TFTs. Black Matrix was also a marketing feature of the 755CD/CE/CX mo...

Re: ThinkPad 820 PowerPC
I'd be really surprised it that turns out to be the case. IBM was not a cheap manufacturer, and I've never encountered such approach. The opposite, IBM liked to make parts and accessories incompatible accross the series and models. Let alone the Power Sries was a kind of hi-end machines with bunch o...

By the way, ThinkDan, isn't two sliders an indication od a passive matrix? What makes you think it's a TFT display? if it looks like one. once you know what to look for it’s pretty easy to tell which a display is from a still photo most of the time. That image says to me that’s a T-F-T lcd. Well, I...

Re: Memory Stock storage in PCMIA slot on IBM 360c
What is the capacity of your card? I think 2 gigs is the maximum one can use with this laptop. Do you load the card and socket services drivers and storage drivers in DOS (IBMDSS01.SYS, IBMDOSCS.SYS, DISKDRV.SYS)? Also loading emm386 can prevent the pcmcia card from working, unless certain memory ra...
