Re: Is a Thinkpad p50 w/ an i7 still worth in 2020?
I am considering either getting a Thinkpad p50 or a t480. The p50 with an i7 6700hq, 16gb or RAM, 500gb HDD, and the Quadro M1000M is going for $850. The seller is also saying that it's brand new, but I'm skeptical about that claim and I have not inspected the item for myself. The t480 with an i5 8...

Re: Battery purchase for W530: lenovo vs the world
The "original" lenovo goes for 100 euros, while other OEM manufacturers sell from 40 to 80 euros. I'd say EUR 100 would feel a bit too expensive for me to buy one myself (and I have T520-s along this X220, so virtually same batt as the one you're eyeing). EUR 80 for an aftermarket also looks a bit ...

Re: Windows 7 or Windows 10 for X61s?
Presently running a X61 - with Win10, 4GB RAM, a samsung SSD and the sata pushed to sata-2 through the BIOS reflashing. I set the memory Buffer at 16GB on the disk, on a separate partition from the OS/data partition. There is also the win10 start partition and a recovery partition. I have somewhere ...

Battery purchase for W530: lenovo vs the world
Hello, I wanted opinions on this. I can get a new battery for the W530, the 70++ one, 7950 mAh, not the slice battery. Now, there are both Green cells models available for nominal capacities ranging from 6800 to 8900 mAh, and the option to get an original UNUSED lenovo one. Issues are financial. The...

Re: Malfunctioning W530. Directly to the trashcan?
I mean on its own though the W530 is still a pretty good laptop, but well even comparing to its competitors at the time, the HP Zbook 15, and the Dell Precision M4700, it fell short on graphics. While the latter two have MxM Type A graphics interface and can be modded (along with modded BIOS) to a ...

Re: Malfunctioning W530. Directly to the trashcan?
Hi Just do not expect to get too much out of it. I wanted a decent laptop for the kids, so I looked around in december 2019. I Bought from its first owner a w530 with a 480gb SSD, 32 GB ram, FHD screen, plus an ultrabase, an HDD ultrabay for a second 500 gb 2.5' HDD, a ultrabay dvd writer, the 170 A...

Re: X6 Ultrabase teardown
Hey guys. Im having issues with an ultrabase I bought for my x61. The latch for releasing the laptop doesnt fully close, which causes the docking system to not work properly and cause different issues while I try to use it. I was gonna tear it apart and try to figure out whats wrong but I decided t...

Re: Wiping data question before selling
The most despairing thing about data wiping. Really nobody cares about your porn data. Even if they do stumble upon it, even pictures of your baby finally managing to walk for the first time, they'll just erase it, getting more space for that zuzanna_big_t***.AVI / tax_return_done_quickly_no_malawar...

Re: X61 still relevant in 2020?
There is no way to get digital audio out of an X61 in any reasonable way, only via analog-to-digital converters. I imagine UCA202 plugged into USB would solve it. Firstly it offers analogue audio in a quality superior to built-in audio in my T520, both 3.5 jack and RCA btw and secondly it does have...

Re: X61 replacement battery woes
Ah GreenCell is actually available in UK on Amazon, a bit pricey but it's available. How's your experience with them generally? Have you ever seen a GreenCell that was bad? Actually I have never as yet had a problem with Green Cell, but remember, in China it is always a matter of the given batch of...

Re: X61 replacement battery woes
MANUFACTURER SANYO I have this on my KingSener batt for X230 too. Don't think it means anything. It's just a string of characters battery firmware sends to Thinkpad. Probably they copied firmware byte to byte from a Sanyo made bettery but more likely they wanted to avoid trouble with Lenovo code ru...

Re: X61 still relevant in 2020?
Okay, but does X61 output DVI video through a dock? Is it same dock as T61? I have a theory that one could destroy a cheaper version of this dock, take out connector and solder some sort of cable perhaps hdmi to that. Does the expert community of this forum think it is possible? For any machine usi...

Re: X61 replacement battery woes
It all comes down to what you need. The form factor is the deciding fact. Be it a 4-cell form or an 8-cell form, you must first decide if you feel good with an extra bump or not. A good 4-cell for 4000 mA should give in theory 90 min of uptime, but that depends so much on HDD vs SDD, screen light in...

Re: IBM Thinkpad R50e price?
I recently acquired an IBM thinkpad laptop running Windows XP. Tried to look at prices for that online but found nothing. Does IBM considered vintage? What is the recommended price range if I want to sell it? Those can be really cheap. I bought three for 10 euros each, fully working, with batteries...

Re: R50e still kicking
If you wish to 'milk' this machine further, why have you not considered any sort of major upgrade (even before the Coronavirus came)? Well, apart from the addition of a 1 GB RAM module. I assume the DVD burner is on its way out? If so, why has it not been replaced earlier? They aren't that expensiv...

Re: X61 still relevant in 2020?
Yes that does work, the converter quality is the deal here. Also keep in mind that sound output through the VGA-to-HDMI converter needs to pass the sound through a RCA cable from the headphones plug to an input on the converter. You cannot get more than Stereo sound to the best of my knowledge.

R50e still kicking
Hello, just to give a hint about longevity of the R50/ R51 series. I bought a R50e in 2004 or 2005, a 1834 series with a M Pentium. It travelled extensively between France and Greece, was used in libraries, university, planes and cars. I have added a usb BT dongle, a cardbus usb2 add-on to give it t...

Re: Project Lenovo ThinkPad T440p (NVIDIA) !!!
This is maybe coming too late, but I would do what you are considering only as a labor of love for the given laptop. This is way too expensive and time consuming to be considered worth the expense. Otherwise, you MUST be certain the changes you intend are sufficient for your needs. I have no sufficc...

Re: X61 still relevant in 2020?
Hi, yes it is really relevant in 2020 . I bought one for 50 euros from old air france stock including a charger, old battery and a dock with a dvd-cd-writer (working great) and a usb 3.5' diskette drive, two sealed thinkpad wireless mouses. I am writing this on its keyboard as of now, and it is grea...
