Wireless under OS/2?

#1 Post by Rob » Fri Aug 19, 2005 11:43 pm

Hi,

I just bought a ThinkPad 701C, and I figured it'd be fun to run OS/2 on it. I read it was supposed to run well.

Anyway, I've got three possibilities for a wireless card, but I couldn't find information on how to get any of them working on OS/2.

I've got a:
Lucent Wavelan Silver.
Microsoft MN-520
3Com 3CRSHPW196.

I'd rather not use the Lucent because it only does 64bit WEP.

I appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!
Rob

Currently, not many WiFi cards are supported. See http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php?name=wifi for a quite complete overview.

Currently, a new driver for more current WiFi cards (Intel 2100/2200?) is in development, but I'd advise you to buy such a card only after that driver has been released.

I only see WLAN there. Although it's an absolute must-have for working with WiFi networks, it isn't a driver for a WiFi card.

WIFI under OS/2 on Thinkpads

#6 Post by thinkos2 » Sun Oct 23, 2005 3:30 am

I have bought both IBM Hirate wireless cards and Netgear ma401 cards on ebay. I have a T22 and older thinkpads which can use these cards. On the TP22 I use a netgear ma401 and it works a treat wirelessly.

In fact I gave been able to get wireless working (both internet and network) using an IBM hi rate wireless usign an old 486 TP750 on Warp 3.

Go figure?
