WTB or Borrow - Key for Type 4337 Dock C5078

#1 Post by Du@lB00t$ » Tue Jan 07, 2025 1:59 pm

The A/N string underneath the bar code label on the underside of the dock is C5078. This is NOT, AFAIK, the same as the code on the (missing) key, which I do not know. For example, on an otherwise identical dock, the key itself is marked 1D84 whereas the A/N string on the bar code label for that dock is D5844. I need a key that fits a dock marked C5078. If you have one to either sell or loan, please advise. I know a locksmith who can probably make a copy, after which I will return yours if you would rather loan than sell. Alternatively, if someone knows the correct Key Number, please let me know. Finding one on eBay might be just possible w that "key" info. Low expectations on this ask, but who knows? Thanks.

My 4337 has a p/n of 75Y5734 and my key says 1B89. Not sure if that'll help or not.

Many thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure, but suspect not, and here's my logic: I'm guessing that the key code may contain part of the A/N string from the bar code tag on the underside of the dock. That's the case for my other dock (i.e., 1D84 and D5844). What is the A/N string on your dock? That info in combo w your key code (already provided) might serve to confirm or refute my guess about linkage between the two. But if the A/N string matches mine, that by itself would prove your key fit my dock.

I didn't see an A/N on my dock, just a part number. I can take a pic if you want.

Thanks again. That's very gracious of you, but w/o the number from bar code sticker, it would just be a random guess.
Those little stickers beneath the lock/latch mechanism look likely to get rubbed off and lost. Which is possibly why you aren't seeing one on yours.

There are services that will provide replacement keys, such as IT Xchange:
https://www.itxchange.com/docking-station-keys/

However, they seem to have moved on from the old docks and only support CS13 and newer docks now.

Lenovo's own page is offline too. :|

Do you currently have a Thinkpad stuck on that dock? If not, just get a new dock. They are a dime a dozen.

Learn how to pick that lock (quite easy).
Or use a drill through the keyhole...

But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

That's not the code to which I refer. The one I mentioned is on a small white label, one black letter followed by four numbers, all beneath a rather 'primitive" bar code. On both of my docks, the labels are directly underneath the latch/lock on the bottom cover of the dock.

Yeah. I've chased those sites myself. And spent more time than I should have on this admittedly trivial matter. My second dock is unlocked. Nothing stuck on it.. So, YES, cheaper to get another one WITH a key off eBay. Which is where my dock w a key was recently acquired. $14 shipped UPS! A much better use of my time than looking for this needle in a haystack!
