WTB: barebones SXGA+ T4* or 14" UXGA Dell [DONE]
I've had a hundred or so T40 ThinkPads and none of them have had SXGA+ screens. They aren't that common. I figured that there was a chance of a mistake in the listing and it was OK (everything else being equal) with me either way.
To me, that would have been a very good price if they were SXGA+ but they weren't and life goes on.

I think it would still be fair to request a credit for each unit based upon the item description. It shouldn't hurt to ask for a $75 adjustment per unit.smidgley wrote:I've had a hundred or so T40 ThinkPads and none of them have had SXGA+ screens. They aren't that common. It was a significant mistake on the sellers part.

Still no reply from the seller, and in the meantime I have found that:
-Half of the time when I try to power on the computer does the screen initialize-the rest of the time it just stays black. I have to power on and off repeatedly to get it to boot.
-Seems to have the infamous T4x motherboard/video chipset issue. Slight moving of the unit causes the video to go on and off.
-Was not able to complete initial installation of Windows XP. Twice it just froze, and another time it gave errors trying to copy individual files.
Note the auction listed them in 'as-is' condition, so I shouldn't be too suprised. But I am ready to send this unit back and cut my losses.

I lost count...
Got mine today, and unsurprisingly, it is also XGA. I contacted the seller, and unfortunately it's a Friday, which means I have to have some patience. I'll plan on filing a dispute early next week if I haven't heard back.
Update:
The seller wrote me back two minutes after I sent him a message. I think he confused me for one of you, because he replied:

Not SXGA+
Mine was also a 2373-72U XGA T40. It was in reasonable (not great) condition. It also had some sticky residue on top from some sort of sticker, and a couple of cracks in the body. Nothing I didn't expect for the price. I probably would've kept it if it was SXGA+. I contacted the seller and he agreed to refund my purchase.

Have you tested the system out to make sure it works OK?Sweet Pete wrote:Mine was also a 2373-72U XGA T40. It was in reasonable (not great) condition. So he actually issued the refund? If so, that's good to know. He told me he'd issue me a partial refund, and so far it hasn't come.
My T40 is actually in quite good condition. There's a adhesive on the top, but the screen is nice, KB is like new, and no cracked plastic. I've seen it freeze once, but can't get it to happen again after 24 hours of power up, even when I directly press on the video chip.
If my partial refund comes through, this will be a good deal for me.
