I was just wondering, will the CPU go into my X31 (currently 1.6)? Thanks brentresley.

Nope. If I remember correctly, in the X31 the CPU is SOLDERED onto the motherboard. There is no upgradding that puppy. Ever.

Would this work in an A31?

No, the A31 cannot accept Pentium M processors. Only the older (and slower) Pentium 4 Mobile chips.

Afraid not. The R4x series uses Pentium 4 Mobile chips. The newer Pentium M chips are not compatible.

My bad, apparently that is an odd-ball R40, as only a few models use Pentium M CPUs (and 855 chipset).
This thread is an interesting read:

I would PM that user (junky) and see if he ever got any Dothan chips to work in that R40.
IBM's website shows there was a microcode update for the 2722-xxx series in BIOS versions 1.27 and higher (current is 1.30), but they don't list the processors supported.
Hope this helps.
