Rooted IdeaPad A2107-F

#1 Post by jronald » Wed Nov 02, 2016 5:46 pm

I have outrun the limits of my knowledge:
I picked up the above, NOS for a song. Brand new, I made the mistake of allowing it to do its first (and only available) OTA update. Huge mistake, now every time I turn it on, it takes its sweet time to update again. I found this known issue out, after I had pasted the point of no return. I rooted it so I have tons of access to remove all the BS Lenovo installed, but i would rather have a later version of Android. Its sitting at 4.0.3.

Now here is where I need some assistance: How do I ditch the current Android version and move to a later edition.

Thanks
Ron

You can install CyanogenMod (probably exists for your model) which is a custom ROM and will have a more recent version of android. I have done it a couple times with my 1st gen Moto G and it worked very well. Far faster and 1.5x the battery life over the stock image. Note that there is a lot of documentation, but can still be a bit confusing at first.

If CyanogenMod doesn't work there's always TWRP to install a custom rom!

At least its not a Samsung device, I was stuck with TouchWiz ROMS when I got my replacement Galaxy S4...
Although rooting it and installing the custom rom was good, I felt the performance drop and it was such a shame since I felt I had the top cellphone at the time.
