If you bought a Lenovo or Motorola item over Xmas/New Year, BEWARE!
YOUR PERSONAL AND CREDIT-CARD DATA MAY HAVE BEEN LEAKED

Lenovo and Motorola owners at risk of fraud after details leaked online

(Full text below found elsewhere).
Britons who have bought Lenovo laptops or Motorola smartphones are at risk of fraud after customer credit card and personal information was leaked online.

Hundreds of thousands of full names, addresses, credit card details and phone numbers from customers in the UK, Europe and the US were published by hackers who claimed they had cracked into the company’s database on New Year’s Eve.

The Telegraph has contacted some of the names included in a sample the hackers shared to alert customers that their information is at risk. One customer said they bought a Lenovo laptop "years ago".

The hackers said that they have yet to receive a response. Lenovo told the Telegraph it was “thoroughly investigating” but customers whose information was included and who responded to the Telegraph said the company had not told them about the breach.

The hackers said the Chinese technology giant, which made $45 billion (£33bn) last year, had not been in touch despite multiple emails. The group, which calls itself the New World Hackers, said that it targeted the company to test how good its security was.

“Lenovo has very weak security and now here we are with new 2018/2019 credit card data LOL [laugh out loud]”, a member identifying as Qurlla told the Sunday Telegraph.

A spokesman for the UK data protection watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office said: "Under the GDPR organisations must assess if a breach should be reported to the ICO, or to the equivalent supervisory body if they are not based in the UK.

"The ICO will continue to monitor the situation and cooperate with other supervisory authorities where required."

Guess it's a good thing I used PayPal when I ordered my TP25, and I have changed addresses since then too. Tough luck, hackers!
