Does anyone have any inside news or gossip about shipping delays for some of the new high-end 16:10 Thinkpads?
My W520 is getting a bit long in the tooth, and I've been waiting for a couple years for 16:10 screens to finally come back around. So now I'm considering picking up one of these fancy new "Gen 4" X1 Extreme or P1 machines. But here in Canada, the Lenovo site currently says to expect a shipping delay of 2-4 MONTHS. I gather there is a global shortage in GPU chips, and specifically the RTX 30 series Nvidia chips that are used by cryptominers or whatever. But I have also seen rumours of shipping dates flip-flopping for people on other forums.
I don't buy myself a new Thinkpad very often, and there are sales on some of these machines in Canada right now - I would say they are still overpriced even on sale, but I'm willing to swallow the surcharge that goes along with buying a newly released model. But I don't relish the idea of buying one only to have to wait 4 months and watch as prices drop and they go on sale multiple times between now and then.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Gossip?

Wait at least 6 months after a new one comes out.
Give it some time to overcome teething problems.
And rather: buy a used one.
Saves a lot of time (and money).
If you look on Reddit, some of their TP order-waiting-times extend well into 2022.

Yeah, that is all sound advice. Up until recently, I always used to wait several years for "new" models and pick them up used when they started to flood the market at the end of corporate leases and warranties.
Maybe spending so much time on my computers at home has somehow made me more aware of and envious of the flashy new machines that co-workers and others have sitting around there homes

I've seen one or two posts like that and I can't quite wrap my head around it. Are those waiting times really going to be that long? Why are people ordering them at all then. Why not wait 4 months and then see what's available. 4 months is almost long enough for there to be a whole new set of models released.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 1:28 amIf you look on Reddit, some of their TP order-waiting-times extend well into 2022.

Seems like they've begun shipping now, at least I've seen a few people confirm reciept of X1E Gen 4's. The P1 Gen 4 i9/3080 with perks is $2400 now (edit: even lower now), not a bad price.
