New P series ThinkPads are quite interesting

#1 Post by dcfbf » Fri Sep 19, 2025 3:11 pm

6 new ThinkPads released: P1 Gen 8, T1g Gen 8, P14s gen 6, P16s Gen 6, P16v gen 3, and P16 gen 3
They now all use USB-C power :x, have a tandem OLED display option, and have been updated to the newest generation of intel and nvidia.

Notice how I said 6 new P series because the new T1g Gen 8 is just the same thing as the P1 but with consumer GPUs.
(Reminds me of the X1 Extreme.)

P16 Gen 3 is finally a step in the right direction for the mainline P series.
  • The ethernet jack that was infuriatingly absent from the previous P16 has been brought back
  • They went back to the angular, fully black design from the curved grey they were using before.
  • GPUs now have full power draw (90w base-105w boost)

P16v gen 3 also gets a new design to feature a drop-down hinge and brings nvidia to the base model (Probably will be more expensive though)

The other 3 aren't very notable and haven't changed much.

Curious to hear everyone else's thoughts :D

Buying the P16 Gen3 as soon as I will be able to. It certainly isnt perfect, but its the best laptop available for my needs and preferences.

Oh, and I am ordering 4K IPS screen and immediately swapping it with the 2560x1600 165Hz screen from the previous gen.

Now that you say, it is strange Lenovo doesn't offer a high refresh rate option other than the OLED which still is only 120Hz max.

As for me, I'm looking forward to picking one of these up in the used market few years down the road for less, similar to my P71.

Doesn't it make more sense to just buy the previous gen with the screen you want. You'll probably save some cash and the performance difference is typically not much from one gen to the next.
