Poor Wifi connection after dropping ThinkPad

#1 Post by lobbleton » Thu Mar 07, 2013 1:14 am

I dropped my X200 a few months ago and my Wifi has been spotty ever since. It will work when I'm very close to the router but farther away it gets rough. Everyone else in my house says their wifi is fine so it must be my computer.
I don't exactly remember if the problems started when I dropped it but it seems plausible.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Antenna lead could have detached from the wireless card. Or the card itself could have loosened from the socket. Grab a copy of the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your system and check the wireless hardware: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... MIGR-70149

It looks like the antenna wire was severed at the LCD's hinges. Where can I find a new antenna wire to replace it?

Thanks again!

Ask in the Market forum or check eBay.
Wireless LAN antenna kit 44C5393
or
Wireless LAN/WAN antenna kit 44C5395
or
Wireless LAN/WAN/USB antenna kit 44C5394
depending on your model.

I have one other issue, about once or twice every battery charge my thinkpad just shuts off. I thought it was the battery but I've tried three different ones now and it still shuts down. When I dropped my laptop, it left a crack in the case by the battery port, could this be causing it?

When I open up my laptop to replace the wifi cable, is there anything I can check that pertains to the battery shutdown?

Thanks
