Problem with clicked links in email losing focus?

#1 Post by GomJabbar » Sun Mar 24, 2013 2:08 am

I am using (and have been using for some years now) SeaMonkey, the continuation of the old Netscape Communicator 7.x. It is a Mozilla based browser, email client, chat client, and newsgroup client.

For awhile now I have been having this irritating problem. When I am in SeaMonkey Mail and click on a webpage link in an email, the webpage opens in the SeaMonkey browser, but at the end, the SeaMonkey email client comes to the fore, stealing focus from the webpage just opened. I would have to click somewhere on the webpage to bring it back to the fore to read it. I could not find any settings in SeaMonkey to change this behavior.

Using Google tonight I seem to have found the culprit (the Adobe Flash Plug-In) and a workaround. Apparently the last several versions of Flash now run in Protected Mode, in a type of sandbox if you will. This is what causes the aforementioned problem, along with other problems such as crashes and freezes.

It is possible to turn off Protected Mode for Flash by editing a configuration text file. The caveat is that by doing so, you will be running a less secure system. See link below for more info.

The following link describes how to turn off Protected Mode for the Flash Plug-In. I used Windows Notepad to edit the file mms.cfg on my system. You have to run Notepad as Administrator to do this. Go to Start > All Programs Accessories > right-click on Notepad and choose "Run as administrator". Navigate to the folder where mms.cfg is located and edit as explained in the link below.
