Five New ThinkPads from IFA in Berlin

#1 Post by Ravin' Ray » Wed Sep 04, 2013 8:44 pm

Engadget and others reported on the T440s, T440, X240, S440, and the S540. It's the last that interests me the most, because finally Lenovo has a ThinkPad with Radeon graphics, 1080p display, and numeric keypad as an optional upgrade on-order.

And Lenovo follows up with a ThinkPad Yoga where the keys recede flush with the keyboard surface as it is being folded back 360.

Actually, watching the video, the keys don't recede, but the frame around the keys raises up to the top of the keys.

I'm probably the only one who finds the new design a bit disgusting. I hate buttonless touchpads.

But it isn't really buttonless. They just hid the buttons underneath the trackpad. You still have to push it down as a button, giving you tactile feedback.

I tested the new trackpad on a friends new Thinkpad. And I couldn't really make out any difference using his trackpoint with the new "buttons under trackpad" against my old T61 with separated plastic buttons.

What is disturbing on the new Thinkpads is the lack of the "insert-home-pageup/delete-end-pagedown" array. To remove that is a horrible design decision. I'll guess you get used to it... as with most other things. But I can't really understand it since it doesn't really take up any more space on the computer.
