Lenovo/IBM wireless card firmware?

#1 Post by banhammer420k » Wed Oct 16, 2013 6:29 pm

I have a drawer full of 4965AGN's. I got a few PCI Express 1x thingies to plug them into so I could equip a whole bunch of machines with WiFi. However I was met with many a dreaded Error 10, and heard from someone on IRC that it's in the card's firmware to refuse to work unless the machine is branded properly.

Is there anyway to "re-flash" these 4965's, or trick them into thinking my machines are Lenovo OEM? Most of the machines I'm trying to work with are Gigabyte OEM branded. I'd hate to have to buy other wifi cards to make this work!

Lots of IBM/Lenovo machines can get a modified BIOS nowadays from http://forum.notebookreview.com or http://forums.mydigitallife.info
They will usually remove the wifi whitelists and add Slic2.1 for Vista/W7 activation.
Do a check for the exact TYPE on either forum, and be pleasantly surprised.
