Laptop case stickers?
Laptop case stickers?
I have two little tech fetishes.
One is knowing what fellow geeks keep in their go bags. Such as what devices they carry, what wires, peripherals, memory, notebooks, etc. I always get so many good ideas seeing what others do.
The second is laptop stickers. Not the small stickers on the wrist plates, but the "statement" stickers some folks decorate their laptop lids with. I love coming across someone at a coffee shop or bookstore and striking up a conversation about their laptops and how they've decorated it.
I've got a new T61 with a MINT cover, so I doubt I'll put anything on it.
Anyone else have this "problem"?
Care to share some photos?

Re: Laptop case stickers?
I have two main carrying solutions... I'd call them "kits" more though. The first is how I carry around my Clevo D900F- ironically it is carried in my Targus Thinkpad Alpha carrying case, which looks like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5 ... AA300_.jpgOne is knowing what fellow geeks keep in their go bags. Such as what devices they carry, what wires, peripherals, memory, notebooks, etc. I always get so many good ideas seeing what others do.
In the second big pocket, I carry the charger(obviously), Ethernet cables, charger cables for my phone and music player, flash drives, recovery disks. In the very front pocket are tools, pens, superglue, audio cables and adapters for sound equipment, and a DVI-VGA adapter.
For school, I use this backpack: http://targus.com/us/content/images/thumbs/0004576.jpeg To carry my W700ds, X60 Tablet, and on rare occasion, my Frankenpad to school. I ride my bike most of the time, and this "mobile computer lab" puts on a good 20lbs of extra weight. But it works out, because 2 of my 3 Applied Computer Graphics classes are one after the other in the same building, and having all those machines is definitely worth it. Anyone and everyone in my classes and in the halls enjoys seeing my W700ds too. The backpack's alternate equipment varies from the circumstances: during school runs it'll have school supplies(pencils, Ti-84 Plus, Paper and binders, Highlighters) and I'm thinking of getting one of those extremely mobile printers. On other occasions such as LAN parties, I'll usually have up to 4 USB controllers, and a Netgear router or Gigabit switch with spare cables, and even a power strip.
I don't share this interest unfortunately... if anything, I enjoy the Thinkpad's aesthetic well enough as the laptop is by itself, there's no need for me to express any more than that. If I were to ever add to a laptop's appearance, I'd paint the outside a different color. I once painted the outside of my Clevo D900F in bright-orange Plasti-Dip, and I thought it was pretty darn cool. The second is laptop stickers. Not the small stickers on the wrist plates, but the "statement" stickers some folks decorate their laptop lids with. I love coming across someone at a coffee shop or bookstore and striking up a conversation about their laptops and how they've decorated it.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

Re: Laptop case stickers?
Here is one of my ThinkPads with stickers- actually the only one that I have deliberately applied stickers to. There are only (2) #! stickers on this unit as shown in the photo. As for what I carry around- mainly my book bag these days packed with school supplies (pencils, erasers, a mini-stapler, some snacks, (1) USB drive, my spare 8-cell battery, AC adapter, sunglasses, a hair-tie (for ponytail days), some change, and my X200tablet (w/3-cell for the lighter weight; lasts ~3 hours on a good day).
emeraldgirl08's Linux Box
I am not crazy about stickers but for this unit it just seemed appropriate since I have designated it to run only linux. I have my other ThinkPads running W7 while my Dell E6510 is running W8.

Re: Laptop case stickers?
My X201 goes in an eBay Thinkpad sleeve, and then inside a "MOJO" backpack made by Eastern Mountain Sports. The bag is tiny and lightweight; the laptop barely fits, but it's great for bike-riding or riding Metro.
Also inside the bag are a small laptop stand, AC adapter, extra cell phone, extra cellphone battery, a small notebook, and as long as I'm not going to cross into DC, a .380.
No stickers on my laptop. In fact, I got a new palmrest to make it look clean. In the past, I thought about one of those fake leather vinyl stickers that they sell on eBay for the outer shell, but Magic Eraser works well at getting scuffs out of the material.

Re: Laptop case stickers?
I only like aestethic stickers, I don't want to put any info on them because I doubt anybody (except me) is ever interested in what specs does a PC have, especially since none of my friends has any technical knowledge and when somebody sees my desktop they are like "WTF is this weird stuff" anyway, as they've probably never seen a linux before.

Great little sleeve, you can get them for less than $10 on eBay. In fact, I've purchased one for every Thinkpad in my sig except the R61 and the X30.

BTW, I'm generally opposed to stickers on my Thinkpads, but I would probably make an exception for one of these:

I typically leave the CPU and Windows sticker on the machine's that I own.
I have been looking for some kind of tribal skin for my Dell. Not because I don't like the aesthetics of the unit, but because I actually want to spice things up a bit. I love the orange lining around my keyboard and of course how it looks when the keyboard back light kicks in. Here's a google image search of my machine.
Good looking machine on it's own. I even themed my phone to match it. But I'd like to do something to the lid. Either have some air brushing applied to it or vinyl sticker. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Do you recommend Targus rucksacks? I'm looking to buy a rucksack for school (to carry my 15" T540p in when I finally buy it) and I'll probably be buying it in August. Never used or even heard of Targus before, so would be good to know if you recommend them!Medessec wrote: I have two main carrying solutions... I'd call them "kits" more though. I've got a Nike bag at the moment and whilst it is the most comfortable and most waterproof bag I have ever owned, for the money I paid, I am not particularly impressed by the build quality. Already got two broken zips and holes appearing in it after about 6 months of daily use. But I s'pose that's to be expected when you spend a lot of money on branded products believing that they're well-made, like I did.

Re: Laptop case stickers?
Nawh, I agree with you. The OP inquired about carrying solutions, so I personally think it's fair enough for you to ask.If you feel this is off-topic and hijacking the thread please don't hesitate to PM me!
Oh yes. I've owned multiple backpacks from different brands and they always tear at the shoulder straps after a year or so of carrying 3+ books in them, where the big Targus backpack hasn't torn or come undone anywhere carrying my W700ds, X60T, and T60/61 Frankie.Do you recommend Targus rucksacks?
The Thinkpad Alpha case has had a few tiny problems, such as a mini pocket inside the front pocket coming undone, and the fabric inside getting easily scratched up and torn if you have sharp objects in it (maybe a hook or serrated blade, a straight knife would probably be fine) but it's held my Clevo just fine, which is outrageously heavy(12lb) and the case is clearly not made for it... I had to remove the memory foam padding inside the laptop pocket. No other issues since I've had it... about 2-3 years now.
I actually have a couple of seemingly never-before used, almost new, Targus Thinkpad Alpha cases that you could use for your T540p... and I'm pretty certain you'd love it. I could sell one to you... too bad you live in Britush-land
That usually was the symptoms with the backpacks I had in High School. Really annoying... but a lot of the backpacks I got were bought from a sporting goods store for $20, whereas the Targus carriers I have... well, I got them almost new off the internet for really cheap, but I'm pretty sure they weren't $20 brand new. The Thinkpad Alpha case is a very old product... I think it was made in early 2000s.Already got two broken zips and holes appearing in it after about 6 months of daily use.

I've never owned a Targus rucksack, but every single one of their many laptop cases that we've gone through over the past decade were nothing short of excellent.A31 wrote: Do you recommend Targus rucksacks? Re: Laptop case stickers?
Many thanks for the responses guys!
I'm looking specifically for a rucksack which I can use to carry my T540p, my lunch and my books to school in. Already got a handheld carrying case which I can use that I bought for my A31 years ago and I didn't throw it out when the A31 died just in case I ever bought another laptop - that was good thinking!
OK I think if a Targus bag can carry a W700ds and those other laptops then it's more than capable of carrying a T540p and several books/ring binders - is this the kind of thing I'd be looking at? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Targus-EcoSpruc ... rds=targus or http://www.amazon.co.uk/Targus-TEB01-Ca ... rds=targus
So it looks like Targus might be a good option.
Alternatively, I was having a look on Amazon for laptop rucksacks in general and this Swissgear is currently the No.1 bestseller http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swissgear-GA-73 ... p+rucksack has a lot of good reviews, what do you think?
Thanks.
