Lenovo 9-Cell 99Wh Battery Runtime

#1 Post by A31 » Wed Mar 19, 2014 12:27 pm

How long do you think I would be able to get out of a single charge on this battery with the following spec on a T540p?

1080p display
Core i5 4200M
500GB HDD (probably going to upgrade to SSD down the line)
Possibly GeForce GT 730M graphics (may stick with HD 4600, not decided)
Possibly a backlit keyboard
Windows 8.1 x64

Thanks!

There are not many good reviews of the T540p, but if I look at the Notebookcheck review of the T440p, they were seeing about 14h in idle and 10h when surfing with the 100 Wh Battery (with FHD IPS, i7-4700MQ, nVidia GPU and 500 GB HDD). I guess with a T540p you will get similar battery runtime.

Another question is how long that battery is gonna stay anywhere near that 99 Wh...

I guess Lenovo picks initial "capacity" over long term longevity these days. My <2 year old W520 battery has about the same amount of wear with 30% less cycles as my 6 year old T61 battery.

Good point but I think I'll go for this upgraded battery since it's only a £15 option if I buy it with the battery, whereas it'd cost me about £100 to buy it separately later on (if I got a genuine Lenovo one direct from their store).

I think I'm going to stick to the HD 4600 graphics and I doubt I'll get the backlit keyboard, but I will certainly get the 1080p display.

I'll be writing a review on the T540p when I get later on this year. I'll comment about battery life in that review. :)
