~$1250, What thinkpad should I buy, if any?
Heya!
So I'm going to be moving around a lot this next few months, and I need a pretty strong desktop replacement.
I've heard that thinkpads are legendary, strong and durable, so I think it's a good choice.
I joined this forum so I can get recommendations on what thinkpad to buy, but after reading this http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=110180 for example I've been wondering, is the greatness I've been reading a legend? or would you still recommend a thinkpad for me?
A friend of mine told me that he would recommend an older generation thinkpad, but for the current ones he recommended me the t540p.
T540p seems nice but I've also looked at the W540 and it seems a lot better price wise, you can try matching the specs of T540p to W540 and the latter still comes better off, and it also has Quadro Graphics (I do a fair bit 3d and CAD) I don't particularly NEED it though, so it's hardly make or break.
The W540 also has nice options like a HDD for the Optical Drive, which isn't available for the T540p (I'd rather not tinker with the hardware). I mean it's like I can get go with the $1,329 starting point of the W540 and I'll still be happy with what I have. I wish they'd avail me going to an i5 on the W540 though so I can bring the price point back a smidge.
Would you recommend the T540p, the W540, or another one entirely?
I'm looking for the best bang in the buck if you know what I mean.

If you need the Quadro card, the W540 is probably the way to go. Dell and HP make workstation class notebooks as well and might be worth a look depending on the particulars, though I don't know much about notebook pricing in the Philippines.

If you decide to get the W540, make sure you DON'T need it's performance, it's only there on paper!

ThinkPads WHERE legendary durable laptops, but that time has passed, I'd look for a HP in stead.

Thanks! Also heard about Dell and HP, might take a look around. I'll most likely buy from an online retailer anyway, so location is not a problem. If you need the Quadro card, the W540 is probably the way to go. Maybe ZBook? But [censored], comparing the look of zbook to a thinkpad... the thinkpad is quite the beauty. Shame the time has passed. If this goes down I might just get a rMBP
