Requiem for a X61 tablet

#1 Post by bobcardone » Tue Jul 22, 2014 7:14 am

I got some cheap barebones X61 tablets off the bay recently to refurbish and deploy to the family.
In the process of dismantling and recombining, I found this on the inside of one of the lids...

Very interesting....
This was probably the most beat up Thinkpad I have ever seen.
Every single body part was either broken or partially melted (?), missing keys, and the screen was cracked.
Darn thing is that it still worked.
Oh well, it's mobo lives on in another chassis.

Mod edit: image too large, no warning. Changed to link.

Based on the image, it would appear the previous owner really loved their machine - abuse aside.

I feel the same about my T40. Even though at this point, almost nothing is left of the original machine. Years of abuse forced me to replace part after part.

"Siobhan" now rests on the Wall of Fame at my workshop, along with the Touchbook CF-28 "Mulle", that saved my life.

As soon as I saw that picture... Holy cow. That is awesome.

Heck I'd be writing on the inside of my puppy Thinkpads if I wasn't concerned about originality, or that I was too lazy to peel off a bezel.

I really like keeping my Thinkpads nice... but if I bought a laptop like a Thinkpad to use and abuse, I wouldn't be cuddling it everywhere I go, I'd be making good use of it's crazy durability and solid construction.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

and yes. I am a bit of a lunatic.

Nice!

Got a few beater Thinkpads and boy do I abuse them. Most are treasured tools that are treated well.

This is exactly what I do with my T410. It's holding up very well.
