The SSD Endurance Experiment: They're all dead....

#1 Post by Johan » Sat Mar 21, 2015 8:33 am

Just came across the article The SSD Endurance Experiment: They're all dead (published March 12, 2015) where The Tech Report has conducted a series of tests on a number of consumer-level 2.5" SATA SSD's to find out when they would start failing, and eventually die. Have a look for yourself to get an impression about how long a modern SSD will last... :!:

Very cool, thanks for posting that.

For mechanical hard drives there is very little public information available, but for over a year the cloud backup company Blackblaze has posted a lot about it on their blog. Of course they only use desktop hard drives and not laptop hard drives, but the information about different brands is very interesting. Here is one of their recent posts on the subject: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/best-hard-drive/
Four 15" T61 Frankenpads collecting dust and one X62 that sees no use, but X201 and X230 in service.
