Where to go now?
Where to go now?
Been using T500 in replicator and a X301 for travel [GPS, internet in hotel] but now the T500 has been giving me indications it may be time to change. Thinking it might be best to get a reasonably sized laptop for travel and put it in a replicator when I'm home. The T500 was too cumbersome for travel and the X301 just a little too small. Is there a unit that is light enough to travel but substantial to use as a desktop?
Re: Where to go now?
My vote would go to T420s.RRHODY wrote:Is there a unit that is light enough to travel but substantial to use as a desktop?

Re: Where to go now?
I'd say the T450s.

Re: Where to go now?
I just put together my first T410s tonight. I would say go for the T410s or the T420s.
Re: Where to go now?
Looks like the T4XXs is the front runner. Is there substantial differences between the T420s to to the T450s, other than cost?
Re: Where to go now?
The 420s has the classic 7 row keyboard, but has a muddy screen.

Re: Where to go now?
Personally, I'd rather have the better screen than the keyboard, but that's me.

Re: Where to go now?
T450s also doesn't have an optical drive/bay.
New 6 row island/chiclet keyboard. New clickpad/trackpoint layout (better than T440, not as good as T420 IMO). Faster processor and integrated graphics, better battery life.
No IPS or FHD on T420s, highest screen resolution is 1600x900 with a TN panel. I have this on my T420 - it doesn't bother me too much, but if you are used to more vertical pixels or IPS, you may find it distracting.
Classic keyboard and trackpoint layout more similar to your X301 and T500.

Re: Where to go now?
As much as I love my T400s for its light weight and thinness,
the battery life of a T4X0s is liable to be too short for travel.
You really have to get an ultrabay battery to make an older
T4X0s work for that purpose. I get about 2-3 hours on my T400s
with the 44whr battery. I suspect (but don't know) that battery life on
a T420s would be similar or perhaps a little better.
Keyboards are a matter of personal preference; if you can
get used to the new layout and the T450s provides the
battery life that reviewers have been reporting, then I'd
go that way. You can hot-swap the external battery
to extend your range.

Re: Where to go now?
Battery life on my T420 is superb. The 6 cell gave ~5 hours of active web browsing. I have a 9 cell now and get 8 hours plus; idling the meter goes as high as 10 hours when full. The standard T420 can also accept a 9 cell slice battery, for 16+ hours. I don't believe the T420s can accept the slice battery, but it can accept the ultrabay battery (3 cell, 2-3 hours) whereas the T420 cannot.
