By default, intel graphics drivers doesn't allow the EDID to be overriden using regedit, unlike ATI or NVIDIA, or even intel graphics drivers on Linux.
(how this work for ATI/NVIDIA Link : MSDN: Overriding Monitor EDIDs with an INF )
How can we get this mod done ?
The benefits of being able to override the EDID:
1. Fix for: HDMI displays are incorrectly labeled as 'Digital Television' instead of 'Digital Display', and this limits the color space to 15-235 instead of 0-255 range., and remove saturation and hue options.
2. Allows newer laptops (including thinkpads like T460) accepting aftermarket displays and have brightness control.
3. Allows more flexibility of using hdmi/audio spliters, as well as many similar applications where the original EDID of the screen maybe hidden from the computer, and also, monitor duplicators.
Note: installation of unsigned drivers are not that hard, it only require that you reboot in special mode (Disable Driver Signature Enforcement) , and after installing the driver, you can reboot normally again and it should remain installed.

Re: Who can mod intel gfx drivers ?
I couldn't find any information in the link explaining what in Intel's drivers prevents overwriting the EDID and what must be modified to allow it.
I am not entirely sure you can install an unsigned driver once and keep it installed without allowing it explicitly every time. But I think that if the change is only in the INF, it can work.

Re: Who can mod intel gfx drivers ?
I do not want to stop too long in front the unsigned drivers issue, because even if the above mentioned method didn't work, it should be possible to permanently run in "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" mode, or, everyone would have to sign his own drivers with a personally created private key.
I have no information on what needs to be edited in the driver to make it accepts overriding the EDID, I do not have the skills needs to tackle this issue unfortunately.

Re: Who can mod intel gfx drivers ?
Just found a way to override EDID when running intel graphics, thanks to the reply to my thread in here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads ... t-10372138
I posted all about how i edited my EDID in detailed steps in here:
http://www.codeground.net/howto/overrid ... -registry/
This should theoretically allow Thinkpad **50 series and newer (T450/T460/..) to have aftermarket upgraded LCDs, and still have brightness control.
Hope someone come across this post and test it out.
