Intel has finally made some public announcements about its next family of x64 (x86-64) microprocessors. A microarchitecture shift like this occurs only once every 5 or 6 years, and consequently, this is a huge milestone:

Merom, Conroe, and Woodcrest are based on the Merom architecture, which is a brand-new core that follows the design goals of the original Pentium M: high performance and low power consumption.
