THANK GOD! I hope this rumour becomes reality, because some of AMD's chips are pretty good (plus hopefully they'll help bring the price down a bit)
A notebook newb!

Might be better for AMD; they still have to catch up to Intel when it comes to having a powerful mobile chipset. It will be interesting to see how they handle the mobile market. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

They (AMD) just missed the mark on their last try (portables), but I predict a bulls eye next go around.

The "next go around" for AMD might not be until a year from now. According to the latest roadmaps, AMD isn't going to ship a product manufactured on a 65nm process until Q1 2007.

Under the current 90nm process, AMD probably cannot build a dual core notebook chip suitable for use other than in huge desktop replacements. This means that AMD has no way of shipping a cost effective dual-core Turion to compete with Intel's current Yonah-based Core Duo, and won't have one when Intel's Merom ships in September or October.

AMD also missed the last design cycle... most OEMs have their designs for this year ready, and they are largely based on Intel's Napa.
