List all WiFi and Modem combo MiniPCI cards here

#1 Post by whizkid » Mon Dec 20, 2004 12:19 pm

I got an Intel 2200BG in my 600X. I'm still waiting for an antenna, but I realised that I miss my modem, even though it is very rarely used. I do use it when I visit family without broandband, so I'd like to avoid swapping cards or carrying around a PC Card modem.

I know there are 802.11B and modem combos, but not off the top of my head, so please shout them out and list them here. I would really like to find an 802.11G and modem, but I haven't found one yet, so please educate me and let the other forum readers know about them here too.

If you have actually used any particular card, please mention that and what your impressions of it are. Also, if the chip is open enough to have 3rd party drivers would be good to know (that is, if it has a GPL Linux driver).

You might want to keep in mind that all mini-pci cards are not the same size. The IBM combo min-pci with 80211b and modem was too big to fit inside the mini-pci door of the 600x I tried. The Intel card is shorter so probably why it fit.

Excellent idea. The original modem from my 600X, 08K3429 or 27L4988 measures about 34x60 mm, as does the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG. It looks like the slot could JUST handle a card 40mm tall, leaving no room for connectors. Anything larger would require disassemly of the case for sure.
