Use Recovery Discs but keep partitioned drive. Is it Possible?

#1 Post by blink » Fri Nov 04, 2016 6:30 am

Hi just wondering if anybody knew if it was possible?
Is there a way to reinstall o/s from recovery discs Win 7 & keep my partitions in place on my HDD?
Have a drive on my x200s that is split into 3 partitions only 60gb for o/s partition & the rest for music & stuff.

Thanks

Not possible, the recovery disks wipe the whole drive first.
Your best bet is to install it on another HD or SSD, then use e.g. Acronis TrueImage to copy the Windows partition(s) onto your 'old' drive.

But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Many Thanks for the reply RBS. I have sorted it now. It would have been a nice handy feature as obviously you can do it from a Win 7 etc Vanilla Install.
