Creating a USB keyboard from any TP laptop keyboard?

#1 Post by 1tntla » Tue Oct 20, 2015 4:24 pm

I was just wondering if such board/adapter exists?

http://tpholic.com/xe/files/attach/imag ... 001716.jpg

Above image shows a board inside of sk-8855 ultranav, that can accept t420 keyboards (I believe). I'm sure someone probably have tried, succeeded(would be surprised if not) or thought about the issue, but can't seem to find any information in the forum (probably my lack of searching skills).

Wouldn't it be amazing If we can turn our old TP keyboards into ultranavs?

I would want such thing as much as upcoming? Retro model.
Hope someone can help.

There was a DIY/enthusiast one for the T6x keyboard :

Sadly, it's not in production anymore.

Does anyone know exactly which model keyboards do work inside a SK-8855?

Has anyone replaced theirs?

My left mouse button is failing, and I don't like the new compact bluetooth keyboard. I'd like to buy a new or used kb to install.

If there's more than one choice, I prefer something close to the feel of the old Thai keyboards for T4x, or my old 770 Thinkpad. The stock kb in my 8855 is ok.

It looks like the keyboard for a T410, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Either open it up to see which P/N is on the KB-bottom.
Or remove one keycap, then compare what you see under it by checking the various keys that are available on eBay.
for a T60-style check pictures here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400074625208
Compare the scissor/nub combinations with what you have.
Check T40 and other keys to compare.
Then order a complete new replacement mouse key.

But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

OK I finally found the thread with details about which models work: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=86096

Oddly, the mouse button has been getting better! So maybe I won't need to replace/fix it, at least for now.
