Thinkpad Speaker Grills, How to replace them?

#1 Post by 1tntla » Mon Feb 08, 2016 11:35 pm

Hello,

When I get a new TP, general housekeeping includes:

Cleaning in and out, Replacing Thermal Paste, Keyboard Cleanup,

and

New parts where necessary.

However, with the timeless design of TPs, the inner layout looks fresh with new keyboard installed, except for the grills!

I would love to replace them. They can be easily removed like the touchpads, but how do I replace them?

Not the plastic ones like T400, but the ones on x301, t420, t520, etc.

Depends on the ThinkPad.
Daily: T440s
Classics: 600X (850MHz), A31p (FlexView), X41, T60 (LED FlexView), R61 (QXGA FlexView), X301 (AFFS)

Not sure how to explain those grills.. the non-plastic ones.

As for the X301, I replaced those with an aluminium mesh once. I'll see if I can find a picture. The T420 and T520 meshes are very different, so I can't say anything about those.
