Add trackpoint KB to a Chromebook?

#1 Post by swallman » Mon Sep 23, 2019 2:49 pm

So I've been thinking about getting a Chromebook and I know none of the current Lenovo Thinkpad models have a Trackpoint (except for the old 131e). Just wondering if anyone has tried to swap a keyboard that has a Trackpoint into one of the newer Chromebook models?

(And yes, I'm aware that you can run CloudReady on an older Thinkpad - I have one already setup like that but would really prefer a true Chromebook, mainly so I could get Android apps)

Two problems that I see to begin with:

a) BIOS support for the Trackpoint

b) Physical fit.

I don't quite understand what you mean by saying that none of the current Lenovo models have Trackpoins. Thinkpads certainly do.

Sorry - I meant that none of the Lenovo Thinkpad Chromebooks have a Trackpoint. From what I read it sounds like Google pretty much dictates the hardware requirements and don't allow trackpoints any longer (they did on the old X131e though).

Yeah, after I thought about it I realized the keyboards are pretty different between a Chromebook and regular Thinkpad so probably not going to be able to do it.

If you got the patience and skill to design a USB adapter, and mechanical know-how to shove it in, be my guest.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
