Flat Bezel to Curved Bezel (or vice-versa)

#1 Post by SHoTTa35 » Thu Jul 19, 2007 9:17 am

Well i'm interested in getting a DVD Burner for my laptop and i can do so for a nice price but the seller mentioned it's the flat bezel which is for the T60 series i'm guessing. He said he's heard of people changing it to a curved bezel to fit the T4x body but he didn't know how to do it. I did a small google search and i'm going thru some stuff now but figured i'd ask here.

(i also searched here)

Opps, didn't check the FAQ yet tho. Going to now :)

I think my X61 UltraBay drive is coming with a curved bezel so I could do a trade with you -- the X6 UltraBase is designed for flat bezels.

Send me PM if interested.

As far as I am aware, the curved bezels are likely to be the older Multi+ drives rather than the Multi II or the Multi III which are faster (do DL) and have the flat bezel so you may be trading form for function.

The flat bezel doesn't look too out of place on the T4* series.

yeah i figured as much. The curved bezel ones aren't as fast which is why i was planning to get the flat bezel which goes up to 8x and then just replace it so it looks nice and flush.

I'd be interested in this bezel replacement procedure as well. The curved bezel multiburners (that are available from outside of Lenovo) are not only slower, but also more expensive (due to rarity, IMHO). It would be nice to have 'form' AND 'function'. For starters, does anyone have a source for the curved bezels?

When ordering my X61, I had a choice of 40Y8622 (curved bezel) and 40Y8623 (flat bezel). Specs are identical, both support DL, and they appear to usually be similarly priced. However, for whatever reason, Lenovo Canada listed the 40Y8622 at $60 less than the 40Y8623, so I'm getting a curved bezel ...

Any news on curved / flat bezel replacements? I'm in the same situation.. want to buy a drive with flat bezel and replace with a curved one.. Anyone got any idea if these parts are sold separately?

I'm still tempted to try and replace a flat bezel with a curved one... has anyone tried this? Would love to get some input...

I just tried this and it is possible, I found 2 drives which had the buttons in the same place and got the bezels off with a paperclip and some brute force.

I used a UJDA745 and a UJ842, so i'm assuming that you will need the same manufacturer to ensure the buttons and clips are in the same place

Thanks for this! Was the bezel damaged in anyway when it was removed? Any tips on how to go about this to avoid damaging the bezels?

I didn't get any damage but the last clip took a bit of force so it would be possible.

open the drive tray and look at the underneath of the notched section, there is a large flat clip, I used a paperclip to lift this up so that i could get it over the wedge, there is then another clip exactly where the plastic of the notch meets the metal of the tray, you can unclip this easily by hand, the third clip can be accessed on the other side of the tray at the opposite end, there is a small hole at the edge which you can put your paperclip through and apply pressure towards the drive to unclip it, the last clip in the middle has no way to unclip it so i just pulled and it was fine.
